Capper

From TribalWar

(Redirected from Cappers)

A capper is a position in Tribes CTF where the player grabs the enemy flag and brings it back to their flag for a cap. This is usually done in light armor.

Early Capping

Early cappers were very deliberate and basic in their approach to capturing the flag. With a crude or no understanding of skiing, they would often use stealth to grab the flag. The return journey was just as deliberate, often taking minutes.

Modern Capping

As skiing became widespread, cappers took full advantage of it. A modern capper uses cap routes, timing, well-placed discs, disc jumps and the terrain to make speedy, effective getaways.

Flag Passing

Even before team rabbit, flag passing existed in limited forms. S3 used a primitive form of it on maps like Snowblind where the flag defaults to an enclosed space, unsuitable for routes. One player would sacrifice himself to grab the flag and merely get it out of the enclosed space(on the front ledge, for example). A well-timed capper would have been on a route that sweeps by the front ledge, allowing the capper to keep his speed and often get away unchallenged.

Modern methods were more directly derived from TR. An escort would ski head-on into the path of his own capper, who would then make the decision to pass the flag. This was occasionally very effective, as the opposing chasers were suddenly chasing in the wrong direction. However, due to the nature of the maneuver, it often failed.

Heavy Capping

Capping in heavy armor presents its own risks and benefits. The armor is much less forgiving to ski in, but the added health and momentum can be useful in some situations.
