Net Neutrality: Attorney Generals from 22 states appeal FCC's repeal

Submitted by: Amadeus @ 01:17 PM | Wednesday, January 17, 2018 | (url: https://www.youtu...)

Leonard French, your facourite copyright attorney, explains all the juicy legal details.

Basically, their argument is that the FCC is part of the administrative branch and as such doesn't get to just make new shit up, that's what Congress is for.

are you saying that your government isn't representing you, your interests, your goals over that of their own?

well isn't that new and special

i bet you should fill out an online petition and call them to change this

I appreciate the argument that big social media sites have a scary amount of influence over what information people are exposed to. Unfortunately, the term "net neutrality" happens to be an already established one, and it refers to a completely different issue.

Perhaps it would be more productive to come up with a new term for the issue you're talking about instead of trying to hijack an existing one?

perhaps

but i still think that once we find this neutral term, we combine all internet/provider/social media issues into one bill.

I don't know man, the principle that all ISPs have to treat all traffic the same seems pretty well summed up by the phrase "net neutrality" not sure why all the rage against that principle.

I though net neutrality was about allowing Netflix data to have priority over YouTube which crushes TW to a slow trickle depending who pays the most for the privilege.

That way you can watch movies on your deathbed while your medical test results are throttled in the queue b/c your Heath fund did not pay for priority.

so wait net neutrality is bad cuz we dont want government intervening with private companies

but we also want the government to intervene to stop private companies from censoring content?
01-17-18 - 04:17 PM
we want free choice and speech

as decided by picking solely between coke and pepsi

this is what we are fighting over in this stupid net neutrality argument

you know that if you are honestly evaluating it

i am not sure why the world isn't fair and equal either

just a few more laws and bills and regs and we should get there though

for sure this time

just like california, the richest state, highest gdp, is so close to defeating state poverty at long last

it is almost like the more we try the worse the problem gets? that maybe this is the true goal and purpose to our government we have (not want)?
01-17-18 - 04:23 PM
Neutrality is bad because it's just another example of terrible government branding

I refuse to root for one set of multinational corporations over another set of multinational corporations that are all completely owned by mega-financial corporations.

Not all forms of "government intervening with private companies" are equal.

Net neutrality is about government not letting private companies use their position of power to extort money from their customers and other, unaffiliated private companies. Which I think we can all agree is a good thing.

What havax and Tele are talking about is the government preventing private companies from controlling the content of their own websites as they see fit, which is slightly more dodgy territory.

I hate like, people who keep saying like, you know like, like every couple of words like, this makes me like super mad like.
My ex-wife has a problem and says, "you know" over and over, you know, when we are talking, you know, i dunno know, you know while on the phone. I have come really close to, you know, yelling at her you know, i dunno, for saying you know, every other 4 words, you know.

*edit - the worst part is when i call my daughter and she starts doing it.
