Crytek CEO doesn't understand why employees were mad about not getting paid

First off, why did staff go unpaid?

Cevat Yerli: You have two choices, right? Either you delay payments - again delay... it's not that they didn't get paid, they got delayed - delay payments and salvage the company. Or, you push your cash flow directly to the studios and you file for insolvency. Both options are really bad. So you have to make the better of the two bad decisions.

However, like we had promised to everybody - and we said the company is not at a big risk, not a danger, it just needs more time to salvage it and that's what we did. Now, everybody got paid plus inconvenience payments additionally to that, like we promised everybody.

Some people were very impatient and got angry at the smallest delay. Also, there was a critique of us not being proactive in communication, which we don't understand, because we had been frequently in the UK as well as every other studio, talking about potentially rough times. And we had even shared with people how they should maybe work with different banks at a personal level to prepare. Or, if not, they could make a choice to resign and look for other jobs.

Not defending the actions, but if you were warned something like this was happening and told you should probably find another job but you decide to stick with the company through it do you really have reason to bitch when those bad times finally happen and you are asked to stick through it? What the guy is saying makes sense to me, and Ive been through this with smaller studios before who went under.

As long as they are upfront and tell you what is happening you have the choice to quit and find other work. My guess the ones bitching were the ones who wouldn't be able to find work if they left because as someone who works in this industry also, you know a lot of people wouldn't ever get hired back by other studios because they either don't have the skills they really need and got into the industry when it was early on and never progressed with the rest of the field.

Half of Sony QA fits that bill.

Damn just hoping this doesn't interfere with star citizen's development

Delayed payments are a far cry from not getting paid

If I didn't get paid, I would probably cry.Engine development is difficult.

In most states there are laws that say wages have to be paid within certain time frame and if not the company is facing penalties.

Austin is a horrible city, too much traffic. Seems like they're looking for a magical investor with big pockets to bail them out.

Taking an FPS game engine and trying to make a space sim out of it while stacking new promises for each new "stretch goal" achieved, what could possibly go wrong?

In the end Chris Roberts can do a tell all book on himself and make money off of that too, titled "sorry I screwed you guys".

“We are bringing the Ryse experience to PC, with 4K resolution support,” says Carl Jones, Director of Business Development at Crytek. “4K gaming is another leap in graphics quality for PC gamers and Ryse is the perfect showcase for what’s now possible in high-end PC games. We’ve given our team the opportunity to show what CRYENGINE can really achieve, without compromising quality, thanks to the incredible hardware available now to PC gamers. Ryse will be a benchmark PC graphics showcase this year and probably for a long time in future. Our community asked for a Ryse PC version, and we have the means and technology to deliver this title with the highest quality possible."

The PC version of Ryse will come with bonus material originally released as downloadable content, including: The Colosseum Pack containing two character skins and two Arena maps; the Mars’ Chosen Pack containing one new character skin, four Arena maps, and the new Survival mode; the Duel of Fates Pack containing two character skins, two Arena maps, and one additional Survival map; and the Morituri Pack, with three new Arena maps, two Survival maps, and five solo Arena maps. Finally, PC players will also have instant access to the Ruins multiplayer map and the “Legionnaire’s Trust” sword initially released as part of a special edition of the game.

Timed xbox exclusive must have expired, they actually think they can get PC gamers to buy this QTE driven game. At least it'll have built in protection against piracy.

if a company is late paying you, having payroll problems ect. run

Cevat Yerli: We didn't get paid, too.

Interesting. I've never met a Turk, not even a German-born one, that wouldn't make damn well sure he got paid.

Terrifying!

Ryse actually isn't that bad - I really enjoyed it. Maybe not a $60 game but $20-30 sure.
