Security researchers at Damballa report shutting down the command and control server of a botnet built by a Trojan bundled with pirated copies of Windows 7 RC. The Trojan is believed to have infected thousands of users.
Attackers pushing pirated, malware-laced copies of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 operating system have been actively trying to build a botnet.
According to researchers at Damballa, attackers hid a Trojan inside of pirated copies of the operating system and began circulating them on BitTorrent sites. Damballa reported that it shut down the botnet's command and control server May 10, but by that time infection rates had risen as high as 552 users per hour.

it wasnt always in the public beta stage. People were running RC prior to it being made public.
I downloaded the RC long before May 10th, and people are still downloading those torrents.
im using a pirated version of build 7100 x64 from iptorrents
Ive checked it and this version does not have the malware thats described.
however i have also been informed that it might have just been the x86 version that was bundled with a virus.
in any event apparently AVG for windows 7 is supposed to pick it up and remove it without the need to :
mainly because the torrent of build 7100 IS the real release. just bundled with a few kb of extra malware that can easily be removed.

you reformat and download the real release

this is why you use newsgroups to pirate and not torrents. TinyXP is also full of rootkits btw
that is confirmed.. only the x86 version was virused. the pirated x64 version is clean
