Hate Vista? Try "Mojava"

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 03:08 AM | Sunday, July 27, 2008 | (url: http://news.cnet....)

Spurred by an e-mail from someone deep in the marketing ranks, Microsoft last week traveled to San Francisco, rounding up Windows XP users who had negative impressions of Vista. The subjects were put on video, asked about their Vista impressions, and then shown a "new" operating system, code-named Mojave. More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was actually Windows Vista.

I think the keyword here is "More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw".
Everyone liked Vista when it was still in development. It wasn't untill it was released that ppl disliked it.

The problem was the media looking for a story. So why not latch on to the few problems vista had at release, rather then tell how those problems have been fixed and is now a viable OS. So then everyone believed what they heard. On Leo Laporte's radio show someone called in asking what os he should upgrade too because vista sucks and he didnt want it. Leo then asked him if he had tried vista, the response was no.

Vista's biggest problem is its image and i think this Mojave initiative is a great idea.

The only thing that I saw out of Vista that looked promising was the concept of better graphics with DX10, who couldn’t get excited about the early preview of Flight Sim X screenshots that were released, others also teased us on the promise of better visuals with DX10, Crysis anyone?

That turned out to be a bunch of bullshit.

If it had panned out it might have taken the sting out of having to give up hundreds of dollars worth of flight sim controller hardware to make the switch, Vista doesn’t support Joystick ports anymore – someone did release hacked Sound Blaster drivers that re-enables it, at least for 32bit version.

DX10 being the flop that it is leaves me with nothing to change from XP to Vista, all the extra enhancements seem like superfluous fluff, first thing I did was disable the sidebar and kill the areo interface, overall it felt like they changed a bunch of shit just to make it look and feel different from XP, add to the issues of driver instability and layers of DRM background operations slowing down games, I’ll just keep with XP till I have no choice but to switch.

how is dx10 a flop? Feel free to post timeline of some sort that compares the support of dx10 to dx9, dx8, etc.

here:

DirectX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They did a piss poor job of transitioning gamers from DX9 to DX10 smoothly, if they would have made an attempt at bridging the gap between XP and Vista by releasing a version of DX10 for XP I'm sure developers would have felt more comfortable in making games for it. It was a tad premature of Microsoft to have pulled an exclusive for Vista.

In the end it may have had little importance anyways because the PC is tied so closely to XBOX360 ports that the only viable platform to release under is DX9 since it matches the XBOX hardware capabilities.

how is the DX released history suppose to show that DX10 is a flop? How do we know this isnt just another case of the chicken or the egg dilemma in tech. I agree 100% that Vista only was a stupid move and has made the transition harder but flop is a strong word.
