PlayStation "Home" Delayed again

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 09:24 AM | Wednesday, April 23, 2008 | (url: http://www.msnbc....)

"Home" had originally been scheduled for launch in late 2007 but was delayed until early 2008. Now Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. plans to open up an early version of the virtual universe in the second half of 2008.

The delay is another setback to Sony, which has much riding on the PS3 but faces fierce competition from Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.

Is anyone surprised by this? The only thing the PS3 has going for it is hype. Releasing long hyped products will only hurt them in both the short and long run.

I am

Who really even likes the idea of home anyways?

I actually like the interface.....but it's taking them more to code than previously thought. Not surprised its getting delayed though. They had better not charge for it either.....

yup, theyll come back and charge for it.

 ps3

So what, even Sony has trouble coding for the PS3?

My guess, they want to string it out so they can keep saying "It'll be better than Xbox Live". Until it comes out, no one can say for sure (though, I think it's obvious).

I dont get how it would be better then live, live is pretty much perfect in doing what its job is. Getting people organized and making it easy to play games online.

Sure maybe they should add more community features to it but meh I dont care about that.

are you serious? Do you realize the scope of what home is? The anti ps3 hate from xbox fanboi's really does get old. At least try to not be a complete retard when speaking. Home has about 10x the amount of community features that xbox live does, a complete world to engage with as the interface, and places like apartments with trophies, for example Warhawk has an in house sandbox with maps where you can plan out attacks then load into the map and play.

Sure I agree a lot of people don't care about it, I am one that could really care less, but to make it sound like they just can't code on a ps3 because its so hard to do is retarded. The back end on what they are doing is massive and takes tons of work to synch everything together. I am sure if they wanted to do the vanilla style xbox live interface they could have had something out by now (Which I would have been happy with btw) but they didn't. They want it to be the most interactive environment you can imagine.. give them a fucking break.. seriously.

it's hard to understand what you're trying to say while your mouth is full of Sony executive cock Shadow

please. I don't work there anymore, and haven't for a few years. I own more xbox 360 games, then I do ps3. My ps3 is a br player and thats it. I left Sony on bad terms and through a lawsuit so my "love for Sony" is about as big as your cock (read as small)

But the idiotic OMGLOLZ SONYSUX crap is old and played out. Home is leaps and bounds more involved then xbox live will ever be and when you have that many subsystems to program its going to get delays.

But then again, you all are such programming savants, I would expect you to sit down with a code base as large as homes and pulling it through to a finished product with in a month or two... E-Gods that you are and all. lulz.

From everything I have read, 'Home' is just XBL with a more visual interface.

ie- Instead of a list of Arcade games, those games now show up in an arcade.

Instead of a list of achievements, those achievements now are graphics inside your apartment.

Now the fact is that Sony is famous for touting big things only to under deliver long after the original planned release. It can only be to their benefit to keep delaying those things people are looking forward to as it keeps people from buying other consoles, and or helps build a following on built up hopes.

people who are buying a ps3, arent buying a ps3 for home. Anyone who already has a ps3, won't stop buying other consoles because of home. So your logic is flawed.

You are giving too much credit to Sony. And yes all those "just graphics instead of text" is a huge increase in assets, from art, to animation, to design to programming.

All of that takes memory, bandwith, and people to create it which was exactly the point I was making.
