Vista Service Pack 1 Released

Submitted by: KnightMare @ 02:40 PM | Tuesday, March 18, 2008 | (url: http://news.zdnet...)

Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) went onto Microsoft's Download Center website on Monday, fulfilling Microsoft's claim that it would be made available by mid March. According to Microsoft, the service pack will be pushed out via automatic updates to all Vista users next month.

Standalone installers for both versions of Vista, 32-bit and 64-bit, have been made available.

Vista SP1 is a roll-up of previous updates that have been pushed out to users of Microsoft's latest operating system since its release. The updates supposedly improve Vista's performance, but a prerequisite piece of software, labelled KB937287, had to be pulled by Microsoft in February as it caused problems with some third-party programs.

Fuckin' A.
I was playing Shadowrun and the game was running a shitload faster - yes - empirical  data showing that it was a whole lot smoother.
The install took about 45 minutes, and I loved the warnings about how they recommend you update via the windows update.
Mine always said I was up to date.
I looked at my install history and there was no SP1.
But everything is much faster than it was pre SP1.

I do not see it on Windows Update. Can we download it straight from MS?

I got it from the updater. I had the pre-patch installed though. Windows Vista, for me, moves files around faster. Loads up faster as well as, it seems, uses less battery on my notebook.

vista blows. microsoft is taking unprecedented steps to make sure it doesn't become the next windows me. too bad it's the epitome of bloatware.
