Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer, has secured orders from Microsoft to assemble Xbox 360 consoles equipped with a Blu-ray Disc (BD)-ROM drive, with shipments to begin in the third quarter of 2008, according to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) newspaper.

They would be stupid not to, people want to be able to watch high def movies and if they can make a profit by allowing people to do so with they're system they should. It's a shoe-in profit that is just going to go to other manufacturers if MS doesnt offer it to they're existing customer base.
I can see why Microsoft's PR department has avoided this topic at all costs. The fanboyism on the internet would no doubt spin a business decision like this into something far larger than it is. However, I think worrying about such a thing is wasted effort, the vast majority of consumers do not think that way.

The article makes it seem like it's a 360 with a BR drive. NOT an add on.
I hope that's not the case, or at least, an add on will also be offered.

I wonder if they'll jack up the price to $600. The fanboys would have a field day with that one.
