The U.S. International Trade Commission said it would launch an investigation into some 30 companies including Sony Corp on possible patent infringements related to Blu-ray disc players and other products.
Besides Sony, companies cited in the ITC announcement include Nokia, Motorola Inc, LG Electronics Inc, and Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd.

^ defiantly, this may relate to Blu-ray but is far more reaching than that with a lot more companies and tech, besides you forgot to mention that all the HD-DVD companies are cited too.
Here's what Gamasutra and Reuters (who broke the story) say...

I generally enjoy interweb controversy, but was just taking this from Gamespot since I saw it there first. It would appear all the articles are slanted against Sony. Gamasutra had the best headline.
