Son: MS may have punched themselves out fo the fight

Some propaganda from Sony .. . .

"I think [the Blu-ray win] is a huge momentum builder for us and I think it is part of why we believe 2008 is going to be a monster year for the PS3. When you incorporate games like Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, and Resistance 2...there will a great mixture of new IP and proven PlayStation brands. I think these factors are timed perfectly because our competition has already leveraged all their big assets in the first couple of years and may have punched themselves out of the fight. We are the [HD movie] standard and now we have the creativity and the products, so I think that formula is going to drive consumers to the PS3."

Don't shoot the messenger...

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from 22 offices assisted by representatives of the electronic industry today executed 32 federal search warrants in 16 states as part of an investigation into the alleged sale and distribution of illegal modification chips and disc copyright circumvention devices. This investigation represents the largest national enforcement action of its kind targeting this type of illegal activity.

The modification chips and circumvention devices allow users to play illegally obtained, pirated and/or counterfeit software on video game consoles including Sony's Playstation 2, Microsoft's XBOX and XBOX 360, and Nintendo's Wii.

60GB PS3 No longer available after July - Only the 599$ 80 GB will be available

Submitted by: JodoFett @ 10:14 AM | Friday, July 13, 2007 | (url: http://www.ds.joy...)

In an interesting move Sony has decided to stop producing the 60GB Ps3, which it recently dropped the price of 100$ from 599$ to 499$ and came out with a new 80GB PS3. Sony has announced that they will no longer be making the 60GB version of the Playstation 3 console after July, and so the only version available will be the 80GB version. This comes as interesting news after the price drop, since the new 80GB version will be just the same price that the 60GB version was before.

Sony now 'considering' 80GB PS3

Submitted by: Evil Light Bulb @ 01:10 PM | Monday, April 16, 2007 | (url: http://www.joysti...)

With the recent 'demise' of the 20GB PS3 in the North American and possibly European markets Sony is evaluating its options. This may include the release of an 80GB model to provide an even greater level of service to its customers. It is unknown exactly how Sony would be able to produce the 80GB while still meeting the absolutely overwhelming demands for its 60GB model. Considering its stock is at a five year high Sony must be absolutely thrilled with all of its recent successes.

Killzone @ GDC

Michael McWhertor of Kotaku writes:
"Visually it was certainly less impressive than the infamous E3 2005 pre-rendered target trailer, that's for sure. Animation quality varied, looking awkward at times. Moments smacked uncomfortably of Vivendi's F.E.A.R. and will probably cause a bit of fanboy ruckus when it's finally shown to the public this July at E3. There's obviously a long way to go, but, in my opinion, Sony was very wise to have kept the game under wraps and not tarnish today's Home and LittleBigPlanet announcements."

EA: Sony's Video Game Dominance is Over

Submitted by: DudeofDeath @ 02:44 PM | Wednesday, March 7, 2007 | (url: http://www.pcmag....)

Electronic Arts Inc.'s outgoing chief executive Larry Probst said on Monday the world's biggest video game publisher expects Sony Corp.'s dominance over the console market to slip in the current hardware war.

"I think the issue is that (the PS3 is) expensive," Probst said during a Web cast from an investor conference hosted by Morgan Stanley.

"This should not have surprised anyone," said Probst, who added that the crowd gathered for Sony's press conference at last year's E3 trade show gasped when Sony said its high-end PS3 would cost $600 in the United States.

Sony loses patent case against Immersion over Playstation controllers

Submitted by: MonkeyHero @ 06:50 PM | Saturday, March 3, 2007 | (url: http://www.inform...)

Sony will be paying out $150.3 million to Immersion Corp. Apparantly the software that Sony used to control the haptic "rumble" feature in the Playstation 2 controllers infringed upon a patent owned by Immersion.

Killzone 2 Demo to go head to head with Halo 3 Beta?

Submitted by: Evil Light Bulb @ 01:30 AM | Tuesday, February 6, 2007 | (url: http://www.1up.co...)

Will Sony be attempting to counter the Halo 3 Beta with a 'mega-hit' of its own? After the controversial release of the Killzone 2 game play video it quietly slipped back 'under the radar'. Maybe we'll find out just how far $21 million dollars can go towards a possible Sony blockbuster.

Sony VP Hints At PlayStation 3 Price Cut

Submitted by: Colosus @ 02:59 PM | Friday, February 2, 2007 | (url: http://www.gamasu...)

Yuhara indicated that a price cut is one of many factors that the company is considering in attempts to break even on its current loss making games division. "We may look at the price as part of our strategy to expand the market when the timing is right," he said.
