Review: AMD HD 5850Submitted by: Beren @ 07:43 AM | Thursday, October 1, 2009 | (url: http://www.hardoc...)As a very happy owner of a 4850 from the last gen I am obviously very interested in the 5850. Looking at the specs the 5850 look to be even closer to the 5870 then the 4850 was to the 4870. So anyone looking for a midrange part to kick some serious arse this is the ticket. While their applications currently don't extend to games, this technology represents the biggest video game graphics innovation since introduction of the normal map. San Francisco (CA) - It appears that the buzz about 3D graphics has been focused on a feature that is not even integrated in todays games - ray-tracing. Intel is beating the RT drum for its upcoming cGPU, which is still 18 months away. But it appears that Intel may be defeated in its own game, as AMDs graphics chips are supporting a 100% ray-traced pipeline, TG Daily learned. The DirectX 10-capable card is a notch above the HD 2600 XT that was snapped in the wild, and the tested unit featured 320 stream processors, 512MB of GDDR3 RAM, a dual-slot "blower-type heat sink," dual dual-link DVI ports, and a serious desire to crank out impressive FPS numbers. While the marks weren't the end-all answer to the ATI vs. NVIDIA question, the Radeon managed to best its opponent in every single trial. Some news on ATI's R600Submitted by: KnightMare @ 01:37 PM | Friday, March 2, 2007 | (url: http://www.hardoc...)We have been able to confirm some other R600 news that is not good. ATI is stating that a SINGLE R600 high end configuration will require 300 watts of power (+/-9%) and a DUAL R600 "CrossFire" high end configuration will require, as you might guess, 600 watts of power (+/-9%). Compare that to a single GeForce 8800 GTX that will pull 150 to 180 watts. Add in a CPU to that mix and you overtake most power supplies peak ratings on the retail shelves today.
