OMG! He just linked something from Hamilton? Holy shit. That dude wanted a monarchy since day one. The single worst 'founding' member we had and a total embarrassment to the others. A government of the people, by the elite, for the elite. Can't have elite people running around abusing the citizens when everyone has a fucking gun.

But, I for one am glad that the founding members of this once great nations, gave the military the right to have guns. This is a first for any nation and, as far as i know, the only nation that has legally allowed their soldiers to carry gun. Now, when we go to war, we can complain against X country and say that their military does not have a right to have guns, like ours does, therefore, its illegal for X nation to go to war.

More importantly, he's not contradicting what I said. He's saying that the people shouldn't have to go through military training to be qualified as some sort of militia.

Forcing people to do something and encouraging them to be effective with weapons, are clearly two different things.

The 'militia' has went up against the government before

Upon returning from the war, GIs found that the town had elected Paul Cantrell, a democratic candidate, for sheriff. While fraud was heavily suspected, there was no way to prove it. The sheriff enacted heavy taxes and fines for every person who was arrested, booked, incarcerated and released. The more “human transactions”, the more money the government received.

Deputies began to arrest people on fraudulent charges, and often. They were known to routinely board buses and go through each passenger and arrest people for drunkenness (even if they were not). Some weekends saw over 115 arrests, even though it was a very small town. Collecting money from allowing roadhouses (pubs, bars, etc) to stay open was so much more profitable than closing them down altogether, that it became common knowledge in Tennessee that Athens was a “wide open” town during Prohibition times.

When election time rolled around on August 1st, 1946, voters rushed to ballots in record numbers to vote out the corruption in politics. But major voter suppression, such as roughing up all the GIs who stood guard or refusing to allow people to vote made the soldiers snap. After a black man named Gillespie was shot in the back for legally trying to cast his ballot, former soldiers retrieved their pistols and shotguns and surrounded over 25 deputies into the county jail, where they were forced to eventually surrender.

Bill White, a former veteran finally fed up with the current administration, raided the National and State Guard armories and returned to the jail that Cantrell was holed up inside. After gunfire, explosives, and brutal force, Cantrell and his men surrendered with all of the ballot boxes they had hidden from the public.

Luckily, no one was killed during the attacks – even Gillespie recovered from the gunshot wound – and the correct count of the ballots saw Cantrell losing by a landslide. All extorted fees were returned to the citizens – a longstanding example of how the people can rise up to fight a corrupt government echoes with us today.

Government corruption comes in a lot of different forms. Protecting the country from a tyrannical government as the 2a is intended, doesn't always mean marching on the whitehouse. And in these (and many other) times when an armed militia marched on government entities, they were just average everyday slobs. You don't have to be a genius or supermodel to be patriotic and be willing to defend your country. Nor do you need to be matched completely equally to be formidable to government forces.
Goat herders in Afghanistan held off the Russians. The most modern, well armed, cutting edge attack helicopters being brought down by every day citizens with 100 year old bolt action rifles.
The Vietnamese held off the U.S. military for almost 2 decades.
French civilians were a major part in taking down the Nazis.

People seem to think that the u.s. military would just immediately turn on the population without question. I highly doubt that would happen.
