Actually the good 4k OLEDs with HDR don't bother me much with facial pores and things like that. However if you use some lesser 4k tv, then yes the resolution will make people look very weird and it's jarring at first (you eventually get used to it).
That's because small errors in pixel quality is really evident with high resolution, and the human brain is very adept at facial recognition so it's even more evident when looking at actors faces.
Don't skimp on purchasing a high quality TV atm (like a LG OLED B6 or C7), it really makes a pretty big difference. (related to this, is that you need a feed that produces native 4k or higher UHD content. If you have bad wifi, or your cables aren't good, or if the content was filmed poorly, or if there is some sort of bad upscaling/downscaling somewhere in software it all really matters a lot and can produce the effect that you describe)
