Lenin's administration redistributed land among the peasantry and nationalised banks and large-scale industry. It withdrew from the First World War by signing a treaty with the Central Powers and promoted world revolution through the Communist International.

He became an ideological figurehead behind Marxism–Leninism and thus a prominent influence over the international communist movement, a champion of socialism and the working class.

Lenin's Marxist beliefs led him to the view that society could not transform directly from its present state to communism, but must first enter a period of socialism, and so his main concern was how to convert Russia into a socialist society. To do so, he believed that a "dictatorship of the proletariat" was necessary to suppress the bourgeoisie and develop a socialist economy. He defined socialism as "an order of civilized co-operators in which the means of production are socially owned", and believed that this economic system had to be expanded until it could create a society of abundance.

Lenin believed that the representative democracy of capitalist countries gave the illusion of democracy while maintaining the "dictatorship of the bourgeoisie"; describing the representative democratic system of the United States, he referred to the "spectacular and meaningless duels between two bourgeois parties", both of whom were led by "astute multimillionaires" that exploited the American proletariat. He opposed liberalism, exhibiting a general antipathy toward liberty as a value, and believing that liberalism's freedoms were fraudulent because it did not free labourers from capitalist exploitation.

Communism is the most dangerous ideology ever created by man. Its de-emphasis on the self in place of the state stifles natural creativity and innovation which moves us towards a dark and stagnant world. Such antiscience methods can not be tolerated and must be obliterated if we are going to move forward as a species.

Pretty well. Until it didn't. This event left a mark in mankind history until this very day. The fundamental core of Lenin's theory was nothing more than a projection of the need we all have to free ourselves from the ones who exploit us.

Everything else was as terrible as what happened in Germany, Italy, etc etc. and still happen in North Korea and USA. Dictatorships of all kinds, from one single person to an elite of multinationals, and so on. A nation without universal health care, rules for hair cuts, all sorts of nonsense

Not entirely true. Socialism is one thing. Ramifications of Communism Ideology in a form of regime is another. And I know you know this. Portugal is a republic nation parliament based democracy (representative) under the Ideology of Socialism. As any other western democracy nation, we follow the rules of capitalism and liberalism. And the issue lies there. Not in the Social Protective State, but in the fundamentals of liberalism and capitalism. Our State failed once in almost 50 years of democracy: when the USA exported its 2007 crisis to the European Union, in a form of product, that Germany liberally imported for its own profit. It took 2 years for Germany to handle the pressure. It took 4 years for France to handle it. It took 6 years for Portugal to handle it. Greece is still handling it. Spain is still trying hard to handle it. Many countries tried Neoliberalism to struggle the crisis and many have failed - like in Portugal, from 2011 to 2015. Some of those countries rolled back from Neoliberalism and are finally fully recovering, like Portugal, and some are hitting the perpetual **** hole of Neoliberalism like Spain, Austria, UK, etc. having massive social crisis and social instability in trade for more tax income, benefits cuts, investment cuts, to handle the global economic bubble they are feeling in their homeland.

^ this is what Lenin called dictatorship of the bourgeoisie

The poor (99%) paying the crisis the Great Capital (1%) created.

Since 2015 that the portuguese state in dropping yuge taxes on millionaires. In trade, wages are growing and the capacity of consumers is growing, making the economy finally work. The more you consume, the more taxes the State earns, even if those taxes are small. The Capital earns from consumers, obviously, from their own products the general people buy. And obviously the Capital can keep on paying the biggest part of the crisis. It's working good. Tax evasion is another issue the current government of Socialists, Left Bloc, Greens and Communist Party is dealing with.

In order to have prosperity these days, you gotta fight the white collar crimes. So, as you can see, Socialism is not a thing to blame. Unless you are a psychopath pseudo-nazi or an anarchist that has no clue on ****.
