maybe the only downside of the egg is the size of the grill space on its own.

I have a weber that isn't huge but it has a nice cook space and it did cost around the same amount of money
 
There are a few different setups you can buy to add several levels of grates but yea I agree for the size of the thing it is sorta limited.
 
That smoker box thing just about looks like the dumbest piece of shit ever.

I'd say it also defeats the whole purpose of the cooker as well.

May as well just start using it to store your soy
