yes

that's the way it's always been

freedom of speech only applies to it being legal/illegal

that's why it is common etiquette to not discuss politics & religion at work

the only thing that has changed is that instead of it being risky to mention that you support homosexuality/etc, now it's okay and what was once okay might now be risky

i just sit back and laugh at how big of a fit people are throwing now that they're on the other side of the situation

it wasn't a big deal before when it wasn't you

Freedom of speech refers to protection from the government, not your neighbors or your employer.

What some people here are describing is the Dixie Chick effect, where someone says something that they know the people who pay their bills will strongly disagree with, then act like the victim when their income is adversely affected.

The right to speak your mind is not a right to be agreed with, this fact does not change whenever it is inconvenient to your side of the political debate.

Edit: If you believe in something strongly enough, then absolutely stand up for it, but if your position is unpopular you'd better be willing to accept consequences.

If you're a dirty gay, you're already free to sodomize and disease each other. "Equality" in no way requires you to further degrade the institution of marriage, which serves the primary purpose of keeping heterosexual families with children together.

i do agree with you, though, arak, that it would be nice if everyone could be free to share his or her opinions/beliefs about everything

but then how do you handle situations where a bigot expresses his views all over the internet, or even just on facebook, and people stop buying his employer's product because of it... should the employer be forced to retain the employee?

I seriously think we should go back to party specific booths to cast a vote. That way everyone is afraid of losing their job every 2 years. We can hire a bunch of SJW to walk all the party lines to make sure all the employees they manage are in a specific line that toes the virtue signals of that company.

That way, only progressives can work at tech companies and red necks can work in manual labor fields, and the progressives will have an excuse to turn their collective noses up at the red necks for being 'below' them.

Its the only fair way to weed out those who don't go along with the totalitarian progressive belief system.

Belial - That is a valid point and one that I have no idea how to solve.

Her boss is the biggest bigot though, her business won't reap anything good out of this.

thank you for your profound take that no one disagrees with

freedom of speech is guaranteed by the government...glad we settled that.

now, freedom of speech is not guaranteed by citizens. cool. if you don't believe in free speech good for you. high five. just own it.
