Unfortunately I'm a university employee (and grad student) so I get essentially zero choice in where I go to seek my first opinion. The care at university health is actually quite nice for normal stuff, but every time I've had anything more interesting than that it's been a total pain in the ass.

I am a fan of evolv gear. Right now rocking my 6th pair of their shoes (these ones are predators), tried few from la sportiva but I am officially evolv man now.

Did you get a grigri or something else for your belay device?

Indoor can be harder because people set up the routes and specifically make them "interesting" (read: hard). I've found that indoors is definitely more power moves intensive.

Your first pair will usually last less time since you'll probably be scrabbling at the wall way more than you should.
Depends how often you go as well. I boulder 3-4 times a week with some occasional routes indoors and outdoors, and I tend to go through a pair every 6ish months (well I don't replace them that often but the rubber on the toes is generally worn to hell by that point), but I have friends who climb less who have had the same pair for almost a year before getting significant wear on them.
The first pair I bought I destroyed horrendously in about 4 months though.

yes, it really depends how you use them.
you can rebottom the shoes though, which is cheaper than buying new ones. I go through a pair in about 9 months, the rock in here is not sharp so it won't tear the shoe that badly. The surfaces you climb also make a huge difference how long your shoe will last.

From my personal experience I feel like evolvs rubber is more wear resistant than most other brands and has lasted me the longest so far.

My evolvs (defy) wore through incredibly fast (~ 2 months). Given, I was climbing 4-5x per week 2-3 hrs at a time, but still. My la sportivas (nago) have held up much better.

That said, I found evolvs rubber to be much stickier, which is particularly friendly for smearing on gym walls.

Also, I'm kinda wondering what everyone's preference is for velcro vs laced. I personally have pretty weird shaped feet so I like laced shoes since I can get a bit more control of the pressure points. I do really miss just being able to rip my shoes open between climbs, though.

Edit: Hip update (for those who care).

Finally got a joint specialist to look at it. Hip flexor severely strained but not torn. I have my 2nd PT session tomorrow and I'm already back to doing full bend body weight squats. Hopefully I'll kick this within the month and can finally get back on the wall.

i guess that's lucky for you. good thing you didnt tear it

i wont be climbing that much (mostly 2x a week with 2-3 hours per session) so hopefully these last me at least 6 months or so

i prefer velcro right now due to the ease of slipping them on and off

currently rocking evolvs, they seem to be holding up better than my 5.10's.

prefer laces to velcro.

This latest pair was holding up pretty well (Scarpa Vapors; velcro, they have a pretty good heel and they're comfy), but I am practically drilling a tiny hole on the very tip of the toe.
It's annoying because the rest of the shoe is holding up great (except that all of my shoes look absolutely filthy within like a week). I suppose I could get them re-rubbered, but I don't know what to expect from that quality wise...

So I never come to the fitness forum but saw on the tapatalk app that climbing was the most recent discussion thread.

I just started outdoor climbing about 3 months ago. Super afflicting activity. Just started leading 2 weeks ago. There is an area in the middle of Austin called the "Greenbelt" and it is an old dried up river bed with some nice cliffs here and there.
What an excellent activity climbing is!

Let me know if you want to go to Reimers. We are trying to go a couple more times before horseshoe hell.
