shadow detail not showing up

this is in my ClientPrefs.cs (1.4 655)

$pref::shadowdetail = "true";
$pref::shadowDetailMask = "7";
$pref::shadowDetailScale = "0";

why doesn't this cause shadows to show up?

how to set to player and items. is it just -1 there?

and max scale is 1, min is 0, so it is binary or decimal between 0-1?

i set as 1 and its blocky shadows
