Make sure you at least keep your front brake bro, but I'm sure you already knew that.

LeMond Fitness | Indoor Bike Trainer | LeMond Revolution Bike Trainer

Picked the Lemond Revolution trainer up a week ago. It's a bit pricey but the feel is awesome compared to other trainers I've tried. It's loud as hell though, but my neighbors haven't complained yet. Not easy to watch movies with it without close captioning. Another downside is that it's heavy as hell and doesn't fold, not portable at all. I do like not having to mess with a trainer tire or extra rear wheel for training.

OPTIONAL POWER PILOT METER
(Available Feb 2011)
Wireless power meter displays watts, cadence, distance, speed, heart rate, and calories with USB and ANT+ download capability.

I'd get one of those if you're interested in racing in the future, nothing comes close to power for adaptive training

Thinking about just picking up a quarq, right now I'm just going off of HR though. The power meter on the trainer is only good for the trainer, seems pricey for how limited it is. I already have a garmin 500 so I'll probably pick up a cheap powertap, which unfortunately I won't be able to use on the trainer, or a quarq, much pricier.

I only use power on the trainer, too. Trainer workouts are all about increasing threshold power, and theres no more consistent and controllable place to do it.

(not saying you can't train only by HR or even perceived effort and still maximize your potential, but I can do threee 2x20's@ftp and my HR can be ~8% different each day... power never changes, and you get really used to how your body feels after a few hours right at your threshold)

I hear ya, I'd love to get power but I've dropped a ton of money on cycling lately for someone who hasn't done a single race yet. I'd feel real illegit getting power right now unless there was a good reason. I plan on racing probably mid march or whenever it's not so cold. Took a LT test recently as part of some team I'm on, definitely need to work on some base miles/aerobic capacity.

this is a fantastic article, worth the read

aerobic base = threshold power

Base: A New Definition

he refers to it as 20MP which is usually about 105% of your ftp, but the argument is the same.
