ugh that is only good when drunk at bar time.
If you want good pizza in Madison I would recommend either Roman Candle or Greenbush Bar

My favorite place in Madison is Natt Spil - It is a tiny bar/restaurant with a wood burning oven. Excellent pork sandwich.

Tawanna Thai at Fairfax and Wilshire, little place in a random strip mall, really nice lunch special for $7.25, BBQ chicken with coconut rice is way better than it really has a right to be.

add Le Metro (aka Mode Urban Bistro) to that list. great bistro food at a fair price. and I work there, so it has to be on the list :P

New Orleans, LA

The Port of Call

Port of Call Hamburgers New Orleans

One of the best, if not the best, hamburgers I have ever eaten.

The other place to go was Cafe Siam, which was a cool thai food place that used to be an opium den. It is closed

Of course there are the thousands of Cajun and Creole places to go.

I'm not a fan of Green Mill but I will give this to them. They have the best chain walleye sandwich (parmesan walleye sandwich) in all the land. This is mainly due to that crazy ass mayo stuff.

I will add:

Chinese - Henry's Hunan on Sacramento street downtown SF.
A spectacular change of pace in chinese food... Change up that Sweet and Sour chicken to a Hot and Sour beef for the win!

Chinese - Brandy Ho's on Columbus.
Not my favorite chinese food, although it is damn good. However, this place does steamed or fried pot stickers that are really ****ing tasty!

Italian - Macaroni Sciuč Sciuč east side of Columbus
Careful now... there are two restaurants by the same people across the street from one another... Caffe Macaroni on the West side, and Sciuč Sciuč on the East. Both are good... Sciuč Sciuč is better. Not in the mood to spend much money on the best Italian food in the city at North Beach Restaurant, but you still want some great food... then this is for you.

Italian - Viva Pizza - Columbus at Grant.
This one is a no brainer... 1 order of Tortellini in meat sauce with an order of garlic bread... This place OWNS, and they deliver food until like 1am.
More for San Francisco

Seafood - Tadich Grill - California at Front
Started as a coffee shop in 1849 (!!), been around under different ownership since. Best seafood I've had in the city so far, and that's saying alot.

Burritos - Papalote - Fulton at Masonic
It's voted best burritos in city by SF Weekly almost every year. Plus it's like 2 blocks away. Close second! Special-K's suggested El Burrito Express.

Peruvian - Fresca - Fillmore at Sacramento
Small plates, but excellent nonetheless. Try the muscles. Spicy food, and many plates with lime juice which is win in my book.

Mediterranean - Ziryab - Divisidero at Fell
Outdoor heated seating, hookahs, and the best damn kabobs I've ever had. Inexpensive, to add.

Pizza - Little Star Pizza - Divisidero at McCallister
Dest pizza I've had in the city, although it can't hold a candle to Chicago or New York pizza, they still do a great deep dish.

Washington DC

Dubliner Irish Pub - Great food, pretty much everything Ive tried there is great. They have good beers on tap, but don't get pulled in by their Amber Ale, its Michalobe Ultra AmberBock. Good Irish tunes every night at 8pm too.

Old Glory BBQ - Right in Georgetown and easy to find. It has some A-Maze-ing BBQ. Great beer specials and has a nice night crowd (drunk Georgetown sluts).

Five Guys - Prepare yourself for the greatest Burger you will ever eat, coupled with the best fries (preferably the Cajun variety). Goto the one in Georgetown and you can wash it down with a cool beer.

Regional Food and Drink (RFD) - Lackluster food, but a larger variety of beer than you ever drank in college. Its kinda pricey, but hey, if you've got the bills you might as well go out, and experiment the **** out of your taste buds.

And finally, my hometown:

Rochester, NY

NICK TAHOES - End of story, just go. Preferably when drunk and get a Garbage Plate with everything, and just go for it. You'll thank me later.

precept i have heard of beacon's but haven't had a chance to go there.

here's a treat from the peedee
Mechanicsville, SC (couple of miles from Florence)
Skeet's BBQ - I had never heard of this place despite it being one of 4 businesses in the town, but some family from Hilton Head had been getting rave reviews from some of their yuppie friends about it. It's worth the trip if you're passing through on 95 (or if you're going to see a race in Darlington)

The problem with vegas is all of the great places are just copied from their originating restraunts of the same name from the original city.....

....but there are lots of good eats here.
