Vivendi Universal Games and Tribalwar.com Announce Tribes: Vengeance “Skinning” Competition

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 17, 2004) – Vivendi Universal Games, in cooperation with Internet community site Tribalwar.com, announced today a contest to create alternative “skins” for use within Tribes®: Vengeance. The competition, which starts immediately, will end on July 9th when a panel of judges from Vivendi Universal Games, Irrational Games, and Tribalwar.com will select the best skin and award its creator a high-end graphics card from ATI Technologies and an in-game credit.

A skin is the two-dimensional texture that is placed over a three-dimensional character model to give it a unique look in a videogame.

Tribes: Vengeance will ship to retail stores worldwide in October 2004.

More information about Tribes: Vengeance and a link to the contest website can be found at the official website: http://www.tribesvengeance.com/ and on http://www.tribalwar.com/.

In Tribes: Vengeance gamers become immersed in a roiling galactic thriller. Throughout the game, the player catches glimpses of myriad interrelated stories that unfold behind-the-scenes and is given the opportunity to experience the full scope of the single-player story through multiple viewpoints and characters. Utilizing the all-new Vengeance Engine powered by Unreal™ technology, the world is brought to life with characters that have facial expressions and fully-realized personalities, vehicles that kick up dust as they pass by, and weapons that display spectacular effects. Tribes: Vengeance will also build upon the Tribes series’ legendary online multiplayer action by continuing to focus on team-oriented goals and fluid movement. Developer Irrational Games has hired one of the Tribes community’s leading developers to head up the design and creation of the game’s multiplayer component. Particular focus is being given to making Tribes: Vengeance easily accessible to the video game modification (MOD) community. Irrational Games and VU Games have worked together to ensure that Tribes: Vengeance’s game modification tools are easily accessible and robust.

Get your contest package and more information at the contest site. Heh. I saw this announced on Firingsquad earlier today. I was going to post something, but was afraid of being OFN'ed.

Might be difficult without being able to test them in game.
That's why there is 3d Studio Max file in the package. So you can test your skin on the model. If you don't have 3d Studio Max or a program that can import MAX files, feel free to send your skin to me and I will render a few images for you so you can test.

Man, they are getting lazey over there. First they want US to find the bugs for them. Now they want us to skin the player models...geeze.........

On the other hand, its a good idea. They will now have more time to code in the Sky Pony and Weapons of Mass Destruction.
