New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Josef Balej and a second round selection in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for right wing Alex Kovalev.
Yes!!! Good stuff, and didn't really lose anything. Although, I would've of preffered Chris Simmon but this will do

For a 6th ranked prospect and a 2nd round pick he's a good enough rental. Now Montreal just needs a defenseman...

Have you even watched the guy play? I was ready to trade him 3 months ago as a Ranger fan. The guy makes stupid turnovers and wasn't scoring for shit.

Ugh, considering he was a 3rd liner there and now will require the attention he needs and will be awesome. Ofcourse he failed in NYR, he had to play with a diff line every single time considering sather would just add new players. Did you see his work with pitsburg when he was on a line with people he had played before? He's awesome. Let him adjust to the habs lineup (probably koivu and zednick line) and he will be just fine.

I think he can help Montreal, he has a rep for playing the perimeter in a tough game (playoffs) but he'll be a threat, not bad for Habs.
LA picked up Dempsey from Chicago too I see, not a huge deal but LA needed some depth and don't have to give up much for him

its simple kovalev didnt play well in NYR, he was third line, played with diff teamates all the time, could never adjust. In Pitsburg he played with a line he was familiar with and raped it good hence why they made such a big deal when he joined NYR. As well, that line in Pitsburg did not always contain Jagr and Lemieux considering Jagr has been on the caps for a long time now and Lemieux barely plays due to injury. I think he was in fact on the straka line...

a RANGER fan, now i know why you're so bitter
kovalev doesn't suck, he's one of the best players in the league. no, you wouldn't know that, since the rangers just drain the skill from every player.
have you not noticed that every player OWNS before the rangers? Give your head a shake...
gainey made a HUGE move, and gave away nothing in comparison. saku now has someone to pass to. kovalev will embrace being the go-to guy again.
