probably because he was knocked into the middle of the bench seat and had to get his foot back to the brake
This seems to have become common today. Apparently driver's ed doesn't teach it anymore and cops no longer enforce it, but it USED to be that the left lane was a passing lane and slower traffic stayed to the right. So, if you're not passing traffic on the right, get your ass over. Don't be that guy that creates a rolling blockade on the highway.
However, that doesn't excuse the idiot in the Camaro. You don't attempt to pass on the left when there is no lane!
