I would have been much happier with the one from Vegas to LA
It would have been a great warm up, since it is so short, for the idea being tested at other places in the state. It would have required far less eminent domain disputes too. Pretty sure government already owns/controls most of it anyways.
The drive to vegas is about the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. On any day, of any weekend, now starting to include week days, you are lucky to average 15mpg on that POS. To add insult to injury they keep the bug inspection stand open to further piss people off. Cutting through Death Valley is faster for most people now (depending on where in SOCAL they live).
But I guess I can see why California didn't want to physically catapult all of socal residents money into Nevada.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the LA/SF one pans out. I'm just not optimistic that it is ever going to get anywhere. And if it does it will be over budget/over scheduled to a level that will make the new Oakland Bay Bridge look like a blessing.
