Alex Jones just got deleted ( Fahrenheit 451 for reelz)

Senate Democrats Are Circulating Plans for Government Takeover of the Internet: Reason Roundup - Hit Run : Reason.com

"Today's tools seem almost built for Russian disinformation techniques," Warner opines. And the ones to come, he assures us, will be even worse.

Here's how Warner is suggesting we deal:

Mandatory location verification. The paper suggests forcing social media platforms to authenticate and disclose the geographic origin of all user accounts or posts.

Mandatory identity verification: The paper suggests forcing social media and tech platforms to authenticate user identities and only allow "authentic" accounts ("inauthentic accounts not only pose threats to our democratic process...but undermine the integrity of digital markets"), with "failure to appropriately address inauthentic account activity" punishable as "a violation of both SEC disclosure rules and/or Section 5 of the [Federal Trade Commission] Act."

Bot labeling: Warner's paper suggests forcing companies to somehow label bots or be penalized (no word from Warner on how this is remotely feasible)

Define popular tech as "essential facilities." These would be subject to all sorts of heightened rules and controls, says the paper, offering Google Maps as an example of the kinds of apps or platforms that might count. "The law would not mandate that a dominant provider offer the serve for free," writes Warner. "Rather, it would be required to offer it on reasonable and non-discriminatory terms" provided by the government.

Other proposals include more disclosure requirements for online political speech, more spending to counter supposed cybersecurity threats, more funding for the Federal Trade Commission, a requirement that companies' algorithms can be audited by the feds (and this data shared with universities and others), and a requirement of "interoperability between dominant platforms."

i wish fb, google, apple, spotify etc would respect the idea and importance of free speech

i understand they don't have to

i still wish they would. i wish all people thought of it as important.

They wouldn't have to restrict anything if people weren't harassing school shooting families and calling for the assassination of robert mueller, but here we are.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

they dont have to censor anyone, you faggot. they choose to. sorry about your feelings

it's just as bad on the far left side, people calling for the assassination of trump/GOP members, harassing people on the right, and yet they aren't being restricted at all. this is the point we are trying to make. these huge monopoly companies are stifling one side. that should make you uncomfortable.

if it does not, then you are a partisan idiot.

you think a youtube account is essential liberty

tell me, do you think businesses should be able to choose who they do business with?

...i dont operate tw, triple.

but the homer shill can't miss a chance to toss out a strawman

I didn't see you up in arms anytime some idiot got banned from here. Where were you? What, do you only concern troll when it's Alex Jones?

This.

His right to free speech hasn't been violated one bit. If he said, "I don't like Obama, and he should never have been president," and the police write him a ticket for a fine or take him to jail, then his free speech has been violated.

If Facebook or Spotify or whomever chooses not to host him anymore, they can do that. 10 or 15 years ago, FatMAV was banned from here (Col or Rat. . can't remember) for his own good, and he complained his 1st amendment rights had been violated. They hadn't; TW admins can do what they want. The comparison to Fahrenheit 451 is ridiculous; the government isn't burning any of his books or telling him he can't speak. Privately held companies have chosen not to let him use their free platforms.

He's free to make his own website and continue to tell us about chemtrails, how fluoridated water is influencing our thoughts, and how Obama was born in Kenya.

I thought you were a socialist. It looks likes you believe in the thought of following the constitution black and white and you are a strong believer of capitalism and a private companies rights as well. That's good to know especially when it comes to union stuff.

I don't think they're an essential liberty, but I agree with the principle. You clearly don't, as you don't believe a private company should be allowed to host people you find reprehensible. You believe it's essential that they police themselves. You're a classic authoritarian.

I think if its a private company then its their company and too bad for Alex Jones. But if a private company is sucking off the tit of the government then that's another story.

Google, Apple and other tech giants are paying nothing in taxes and that comes with a price and that price is favors from government.

There are also monopoly laws, the same laws that got the oils companies busted up. So it will be interesting to see if that ever plays out for these large tech companies.

For the past several years, liberals have been decrying Christian bakeries who refused service to gay couples. The memories of liberals work in mysterious ways.
