grinding your own meat

i finally got the attachment for my mixer that does this

what do you guys who do this generally use and do you have any tips for using the thing in the first place?

also has anyone tried making tube pasta with one and is it worth trying

edit:

things i have learned since grinding my own meat

- putting plastic wrap through the grinder instead of bread works better and doesn't waste bread

- don't accidentally leave both discs in the grinder or you will make a really disgusting mess

- cover the mixer with plastic wrap and point the grinder at the sink so the juices go towards it and not everything else in the kitchen

- grind your meat twice to incorporate the fat better

Your meat will tend to warm up when you are grinding it, so make sure to keep it cool. You might also want to consider using a lubricant so cleanup is easier.

5 years ago if you had told me that bad mofo #2 was going to be making good posts i would have laughed out loud for real

what is your secret

When my butcher puts rib eyes on sale, I will buy one, grind it, and make one hell of a hamburger. I also use it to make sausage. Run a couple of slices of bread through it when you are done grinding. This will help remove the excess crap in it. Make sure to keep your grinder very clean, and as mentioned, keep your meat cold. I also use the sausage stuffer to stuff manicotti, works great. That's all I got.

I always try to grind my meat twice but I'm usually too tired after the first time.
