Exasperated Democrats try to rein in Ocasio-Cortez - POLITICO

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is already making enemies in the House Democratic Caucus — and some of its members are mounting an operation to bring the anti-establishment, democratic socialist with 2.2 million Twitter followers into the fold.

The effort, described by nearly 20 lawmakers and aides, is part carrot, part stick: Some lawmakers with ties to Ocasio-Cortez are hoping to coax her into using her star power to unite Democrats and turn her fire on Republicans. Others simultaneously warn Ocasio-Cortez is destined for a lonely, ineffectual career in Congress if she continues to treat her own party as the enemy.

I’m sure Ms. Cortez means well, but there’s almost an outstanding rule: Don’t attack your own people,” said Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.). “We just don’t need sniping in our Democratic Caucus.”

Incumbent Democrats are most annoyed by Ocasio-Cortez’s threat to back primary opponents against members of their ranks she deems too moderate. But their frustration goes beyond that: Democratic leaders are upset that she railed against their new set of House rules on Twitter the first week of the new Congress. Rank and file are peeved that there’s a grassroots movement to try to win her a top committee post they feel she doesn’t deserve.

Even some progressives who admire AOC, as she’s nicknamed, told POLITICO that they worry she’s not using her notoriety effectively.

“She needs to decide: Does she want to be an effective legislator or just continue being a Twitter star?” said one House Democrat who’s in lockstep with Ocasio Cortez’s ideology. “There’s a difference between being an activist and a lawmaker in Congress.”

It’s an open question whether Ocasio-Cortez can be checked. She’s barely been in Congress a week and is better known than almost any other House member other than Nancy Pelosi and John Lewis. A media throng follows her every move, and she can command a national audience practically at will.

Two House Democratic sources compared her use of Twitter to Donald Trump’s. Just as congressional Republicans constantly withhold criticism of the president out of fear he’ll unleash a tweet at them, some Democrats have done the same with Ocasio-Cortez.

“People are afraid of her,” said one senior Democratic aide.

Others aren’t so sure. They point to her first week in Congress: Ocasio-Cortez aggravated Democratic leaders and even some fellow progressives when she tweeted that she’d oppose the Democratic rules package, arguing it would stymie liberal priorities like “Medicare for all.”

House Democrats were also unhappy when she made a play for a seat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee. Lawmakers suspected Ocasio-Cortez was behind a massive online campaign pressing Pelosi to appoint her to the panel, though her office said she was not.

Critics inside the caucus felt she didn't deserve it, given her lack of professional experience on tax issues and her status as a freshman.

“It totally pissed off everyone,” said one senior House Democratic lawmaker of the campaign. “You don’t get picked for committees by who your grass-roots [supporters] are.”

“Maybe it’s the aunt or uncle you didn’t want to invite to the wedding,” Grijalva added, but Ocasio-Cortez “is part of the family.”

Trump Jr. clashes with Acosta over border wall gaffe, joining pile-on

Donald Trump Jr. got into a heated clash Thursday with Jim Acosta as he joined the Twitter army of people, including his father, mocking the CNN correspondent for a video that inadvertently made the case for a border wall.

Acosta, known for his dramatic flourishes that get under the skin of President Trump and for getting into fights with top Trump officials, posted the video during a visit to the border, coinciding with the president's trip.

“Here are some of the steel slats that the president’s been talking about,” Acosta said while reporting in Texas and touching a wall slat. “But as we’re walking along here, we’re not seeing any kind of imminent danger.”

“There are no migrants trying to rush toward this fence.”

Acosta then declared there was “no sign of the national emergency that the president has been talking about” and it was “tranquil” near him. He captioned the video, “I found some steel slats down on the border. But I don’t see anything resembling a national emergency situation.. at least not in the McAllen TX area of the border where Trump will be today.”

The tweet was met by a chorus of mockery, which included Press Secretary Sarah Sanders and even Trump himself -- who adopted Twitter user @neontaster’s game of prefacing any Acosta tweet with the words “Dear Diary.” They argued Acosta didn't see an emergency because he was at a section of the border protected by the kind of barrier Trump supports.

Trump Jr. then piled on, thanking Acosta for proving Trump’s point, “and simultaneously creating one of the best self-own videos ever!!!”

Acosta soon responded: “It’s a little strange Don. You guys seem to be saying the current measures in place are working. Does that mean your dad should reopen the government and get federal employees back to work? #byebye.”

Trump Jr. responded: “I know this might be hard for you to comprehend Jimbo, but the reason why all of Twitter has been mocking you today is because you were at a part of the border WITH A WALL. So yes, of course it was working. Replicate that across the border & we’ll all be safer. #RealNews #ByeBye”

To put a not-too-subtle finish to his point, the president’s son later retweeted a meme called, “Spotted: Jim Acosta playing golf earlier today” and showing a man with a CNN logo for a face getting run over by a Trump-like driver in a golf cart.

“Bye, go home to mommy,” the Trump voiceover says.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs team feuds with Democratic lawmakers - Business Insider

"The Democratic Party and the King of England have surprisingly similar reactions to democracy when their own power is threatened," Saikat Chakrabarti, Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff, tweeted.

Chakrabarti accused lawmakers of "planting" their criticism in the news outlet rather than focusing on doing their jobs.

"I wish our Congress was as effective at organizing around legislation as they seem to be in organizing big money and planting crap stories in Politico," he went on. "Bullshit like this is why people have no faith in Congress doing its job — because it doesn't."

"The 'know your place, little girl' rhetoric is something that many young women have heard before. It comes from a place of misogyny, ageism, and pure jealousy," the feminist writer Lily Herman tweeted on Friday morning, adding, "Best of luck to all the Dems who went on the record with their condescending remarks in this piece."

Democratic lawmakers are particularly upset about Ocasio-Cortez's promise to support primary challenges to sitting Democrats who she and allied activists think are insufficiently progressive.
In a call last November with activists, Chakrabarti said, "We gotta primary folks."

One Democratic congressional strategist wary of Ocasio-Cortez's insurgency told INSIDER it was "the conference call heard 'round the world — or certainly 'round the caucus."
But Ocasio-Cortez has said she's interested only in supporting challengers to Democrats in safe blue districts.

RBG was/is being kept alive by artificial means. An 85 year old person does not fall, suffer broken ribs, is found to have multiple masses in the form of lung cancer, go in for a couple days to get them removed and is then reportedly cartwheeling out of the OR because she's just doing that great.

RBG's a hardcore Leftist. Routinely called for sex-integrated prisons, security housing, Boy Scouts. She wanted to make Father's Day and Mother's Day illegal (due to being separate holidays).

She also called for reducing the age of consent for sexual acts to people who are "less than 12 years old." She was hellbent on destroying the traditional family, pushing for women to enter the workforce (which was really a clever way to double the taxation of the population by taxing working women and reducing the overall income of men), and pushing for "a comprehensive program of government supported child care."

She also thought the Mann Act (which is a law that punishes people who engage in interstate sex traffic of women and girls) was "offensive." She believed such acts (human trafficking) should be considered "within the zone of privacy."

She also though the following words were "sexist" and should be eliminated from all statutes: man, woman, manmade, mankind, husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, serviceman, longshoreman, postmaster, watchman, seamanship, and "to man" (a vessel). As well as replacing he, she, him, her, his, and hers should be replaced by "he/she", "her/him", and "hers/his" and that we should effectively abolish third person singular pronouns.

She also pushed for hiring quotas for career women in 1974.

This is the same kind of brainwashing bullshit narrative that's pushed colleges deep into the quagmire of insanity. (Think Antifa, think BLM).
