Defender missiles

I keep getting raped in this second tier agent mission by missile-using pirates. Figured I might last a little longer if I tried using defender missiles.

Uh no, still raped.

Anybody use them effectively?
 
Nahh I haven't used them. Using longer range small ammo or light missles works well against rats though. I orbit them at about 17KM, and rain death down on them. The key is to keep moving, and they will miss or barely damage you half the time.
 
Which doesn't work on higher level missions as lvl 2 and above mission rats easily hit you at range (often they have more range than you do). What I do is have a good shield booster and just try to kill them as fast as possible.

This is not the best way.

As for defenders, never used them myself but apparently there's a bit of a trick to them, namely timing their launch to when you have incoming missles. The more warning you have the better.
 
I want level II missions. Level I missions in my fucking Battlecruiser is a waste of time. Even in my cruiser its a waste, its slow and the rats don't even scratch my shields.
