AMD Ryzen 7 1800X @ HWBOT

It is release day so most people don't even have theirs yet.

that's great and all, but the 1800x is still not as fast as my new 7700k, and yet it's almost 200 dollars more.

amd has lost their ****ing mind. no one is going to pay 500 dollars for that.

Benchmarking Performance: CPU Rendering Tests - The AMD Zen and Ryzen 7 Review: A Deep Dive on 1800X, 1700X and 1700

looks like the 7700K gets crushed in quite a few benchmarks, 7700 is faster in a few, and is a wash in others.

the 1800 btw is competing against the 5960 not the 7700K.

oic, for workstations with 8 cores, yeah it does a good job.

for gaming, not so much.

How the **** would you know? No one even has one yet. Your OPINION is based on shill reviews from engineering samples. OP pictures are actual real word results, not some shill rags poorly executed bench reviews.

i'm not saying it will be a slouch with gaming, but the single core results, along with some gaming benchmarks i've seen online from some testers that got a hold of the chip, it lags a bit behind the kaby lake 7700k. But that's also without the 1800x overclocked, which is a huge unknown right now on how far you can push it.

I've heard that the 65w 1700 non x can overclock higher than the 1800x. We won't really know anything until Monday IMO. Most hardcore dudes should have their **** delivered by then and have lots of tests run.

This thread is mostly for people like me, who are about to build a new PC in the next 45 days. The other audience is for nerds that like watching numbers go up.

So few games and programs are multi threaded to take advantage of 8 cores it's going to be awhile before things show any signs of improvement leaning towards AMD.

still, if competition drives down prices then it's a win all around.

This is pretty unlikely since they're the same chip design to begin with and only get a performance category based on how well they perform during biasing. It's possible that a 1700 could perform better than an 1800x but not be placed in a higher tier because it has some defect like a partially functioning cache. How much a chip can be overclocked is a crapshoot and varies wildly on an individual device basis.

amd closed the gap enough to sell some units, but if you're a gamer intel still is king. if you do a lot of other stuff amd is viable.

AMD Ryzen 7 1800X still behind Intel, but it’s great for the price | Ars Technica

Gaming benchmarks terrible

idk that terrible is the right word, its better than it was for sure. you could say gamers no longer have a good choice and a bad choice. they now have a good choice and a best choice.

Yes they have a more expensive choice with worse performance. Or a cheaper choice with better performance.

the 1800 isn't more expensive than it's counter part. pretty sure none of the AMD parts are more expensive than their targeted opposition.

w/e - you like hating on AMD thats fine. i'll leave you to it.

7700K is cheaper and has better gaming performance. This isn't some grudge, just the facts.

cheaper than the 1800? fine. the 1800 isn't the competitive part for the 7700.
