Naysayers always seem like a prominent group on forums. There are probably always a greater percentage of people like me, who have been hopeful and glad for any or all of these projects to come to fruition.
It's happened enough times though, that the average onlooker just doesn't have much use in getting hyped until some serious results start to appear. I'm afraid I haven't any suitable talents to offer that haven't already been covered. Mapping interests me, and I've played with editors for several games, but tons of guys have more experience than I do.
I think you underestimate the percentage of naysayers - I ask you:
why are we naysayers now?
Personally: I've seen several of these projects come and go. Each project failed.
I'm done with Tribes competition. Tribes is Done. it's over. It's like Counter Strike for me. I am officially RETIRED. I may pop on every now or then, and hell, if I had CS I'd play it for an hour for good old times, but I'm DONE.
"DONE" is a state of being. I hung up the jetpacks with both my tribes and I'm done. You wouldn't get it unless you too were "Done".
I love seeing people make stuff. That's why I encourage people to try. but the most noticeable thing in this community (Tribes Community at large) is that we all want the days of competition back - and it corrupts every project that comes along that is even remotely like Tribes or influenced by it.
I have tried comp again after T2. I played BF2142 on TWL and even fought against the only person possibly better than me at Pylum - Zarious, who I knew from playing T2 in BEML. It was fun, but I realized something while playing - it wasn't the same.
The past is over, and I think of Tribes 2 now as I think of playing CS 1.5 and 1.6. The Days of Ownage are over, and it's time to move on.
The only thing I see happening is another competitive game being made that is different from Tribes and Tribes 2. I'd sign up to help develop that using my time with Blender, GIMP and Dev-C++...Tribes is still dead, though. It's time for the Son of Tribes to arise. We are still trying to shock life into T1 and T2, and it just won't work.
As for this project: Videos. If you want to attract, videos will convince people. Screens? Even I have screens of my stuff. Ascension had screens. Duke Nukem Forever has screens.
my ultimate point is this: We are naysayers because of the failure rate and because a lot of us are actually "done" and want people to direct their efforts away from Tribes.
