Sexually explicit drawings of children ARE illegal. What's "gray" is that they aren't considered children unless the artist indicates that they are. So you can have the most obvious looking child, but if you don't indicate they are, it's not illegal.

as stupid as it sounds this is the truth, I had to report a site that claimed to have 14 year old nude women, even though they were really 18. the owner was arrested, because it is illegal to even pose an adult as a minor in a situation like this.

Kinda wierd law once you actually read it.

EDIT- Well let me say im not sure if the writing down stories is true, but any "fake" photo's, depicting children in lewd acts are considered child porn even if the models are 18+.
