Crysis Tribes mod: Rise

looks sweet and better than legions. I was always interested in how the crysis engine could handle a tribes-type game

edit: skiing didn't look that bad to me either

I think concentrating on ski routes is a terrible idea. That's one of the major flaws with Vengeance. Let the players invent ski routes on their own. Game developers should just stick with developing natural looking landscapes. When Tribes was built, ski routes were not considered at all. I think these guys should stick with that concept.


But on the other hand, I've only played the Tribes games for maybe a grand total of 10 hours, so what the fuck do I know? :lol:

Ski routes weren't considered, because skiing didn't exist at the time.

I did not literally mean for them to put in ski routes. What fun would that be? I cited ski routes as something to think about, because you need nice rolling hills and mid/small sized maps to make good routes. I saw none of that in this video.

It was still impressive for an alpha build.
 
As it's in the early stages of development I'd like to chime in and suggest some additions:

1. Playable in a browser
2. In game email
3. Name registry (it's stupid to allow more than 1 person per name)
4. Huge maps
5. 12 vehicles
6. Small maps in tiny bounding boxes (if 4 is not applicable)
7. Tons of gadgets
Actually, I thought in game email was a nice and convenient method of keeping in touch with others directly within Tribes 2, as were the forums. Not necessary by any means, but it was nice to have right at hand.
 
Let me preface this by saying I wish you and your team good luck with the mod. I hope I get to play it. :)

I'm amazed at the responses by TW in this thread. I remember a little project called "Ascension" started up by a bunch of people in the community (mostly lolren players) who released an alpha video very similar to this:



The similarities:

-Both teams had some skiing
-Both had bases
-Both had a disc launcher
-Both were not a far cry (lol) from what the original engine had to offer in terms of functionality and aesthetics

The differences:

-Crysis looks prettier
-Ascension had more concept art and 3d assets by this point
-Ascension had a larger following
-Ascension had engine access

My guess is you're all bitter in the mouth from anything connected in some way to GarageGames. I remember seeing the video where the dude was skiing in the Source engine shooting the stock machine gun and people were jizzing all over the place even though it had less than these two projects.

Now I'm not saying Ascension is better or worse, it just seems that you've all been blindsided by the pretty graphics of Crysis without looking at what has actually been completed here.
 
Oh yea, if you guys were complaining about the Legions out of bounds/overdrive messages, you ain't seen nothin yet:

BugsPray wow a little bitter here? Surely you would know how the out of bounds boxes work... you are comparing apples with oranges.

This looks much better than anything else out there at the moment (and not just in looks), simple as that :)

I'm not really bitter about anything. I'm just pointing out how you've all turned into a bunch of graphics whores.
