Roof technology

in 2020 people use tools

For example. See what she is doing? Peeling off the shingles? Had she started at bottom corner, and worked her way up, she would not need that tool to remove the shingles.

Pull and peel with the right pressure and you can basically get off a whole square at a time.
(a square is 10'x10' if memory serves me correct.)

I used these. Had the roof and some of the wood off in a day.

Yes, it came off in big chunks. The singles were ok, but the install and wood wasn't.

Flashing under shingles, vents installed upside down, barely any ice shield, rotten wood, etc.

Took yesterday off, pictures from this morning before the snow and Saturday

Pulled up this stupid piece of crooked wood

Surprise, not a square corner on it. Managed to slip in the bitch clips.

Nothing on this sun room is square or straight. Here's a nice gap near the valley by the ladder. Where the first sheet was rotten.

From there I pulled the sheet off the corner. Had some rot under the drip edge.

Found some surprise gold

Thankfully they were pretty slow from the cold and I managed to hose them all down before they got too frisky.

Check out how high the rafter under my boot is compared to the others around it. They're obviously getting in there between the sheet and face board. I'm not going to rebuild this whole goddamn sun room so I'll cram some gutter apron in there when I can.

Cleaned up and swept out all the carcasses.

Dropped a sheet on there, managed to keep it on the roof without it taking me with it.
Surprise the goddamn corner isn't straight. Sawed off a wedge nearly an inch wide from the bottom up towards the peak.

From there I ran ice shield and paper up under the existing paper near the top and started shingling. Got this done before dark.

Cleaned up and flopped the tarps back down.

Rained yesterday and this morning. Went up and took these pictures before the snow.

Supposed to be in the high 50's/ low 60's tomorrow. I'll run Ice shield and drip edge where the tarp is over the garage (by the ladder) and see where I end up. Hopefully dry enough by then to finish shingles on the sun room and start shingles over the garage.

:bacon:

Are you trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?
Is this Mason code for something?

Got a little rain that turned into a mist, so I stopped after the sun room was shingled. If the weather cooperates I'll be done shingling tomorrow.

Todays progress. Built a triangle

Really digging the valley technique. Makes for a crisp edge.

Then it started to rain. Heavy for a few minutes

Turned onto a mist, ended up 8 shingles short.

Shout out to my cutting board. Maybe I'll frame it.

Storming out now. Picked up another bundle earlier tonight. I'll finish shingles tomorrow after the rain, and do the stupid stink pipe flash and ridges.
