Just because it's created in a 3D program doesn't mean it has to look 'rendered'. Cel shaders are a standard option in 3D Studio these days, and 'roughing it up' isn't overly complex. You might be surprised just how many cartoons are created in 3D, no reason comic books couldn't be done the same. It's a hell of a lot quicker & a hell of a lot less work to do a scene like that on computer than with pen & paper. If you want to give it a more 'handcrafted' feel, you can detail it by hand after, but the basics.. the street, sidewalk, buildings, etc could all be done very quickly in 3D, and re-used from any angle, in any lighting, for as many different panels as you wanted.

What you're referring to isn't possible, you're kind of saying the metal goes into one end of the factory and a short while later a car pops out. Well yes, but not really.

Limited 3D is used by quite a few comic book artists though, such as setting up the basic building blocks in Max which will instantly give you correct perspective and you may be able to find a more unique angle than what you'd normally draw. After you get the blocks in place you can photostat that to a regular board to begin your fine tuning.

So you're saying that creating a street scene in 3D then adding detail by hand is impossible, and that 'quite a few comic book artists' create a scene in 3D then detail it by hand?

Some anime sketches I did. Pretty crappy and the scan didn't turn out too well, but you get the idea. Criticism is welcome.

I'm sure someone's said this to you before, but here we go anyway.

While I'm obviously not much of an artist, I really do think your drawings are very good. The level of detail is great and, in terms of technical aspects, everything is pretty solid (with a few mistakes that you yourself have noticed/pointed out).

But, there's just something about the way you do faces that sits wrong. They all look very similar and feel somehow unnatural to me. But hey, who am I to judge
