So I'm coming back in the evening from surfing. Quiet day in Mazatalan... too quiet.
No bandas in the restaurants; no music blaring from Pulmonias
I get home and my wife tells me there's a big 'protest' in Culiacan, two hours up the road from Mazatlan and everyone is battening down the hatches; staying in for the night ,,, here's what I've pieced together.
Many people of the town of Culiacan feel protected by the narcos and don't trust the police; a town divided. The police were driving by a narco house and supposedly a shot came from the narco house. The police then took over the house. A rumor started that one of El Chapo's sons was in the house and had been taken into custody. Not sure if that was ever true, but the town people/narcos took over the roads to prevent him from being taken out of Sinaloa. Gun fights ensued. Later, the son called to say he's not in custody and is doing just fine. The police back off for 'the salvation of the city'. Everybody says hooray and goes surfing.

Ya, it was pretty horrific
i don't much agree about drug wars
story time
my sister in law and her husband were driving from LA to Mazatlan
they did what we've always heard not to do, drive late at night
they got pulled over by 'cops'
right after Culiacan
taken to a cornfield with their kids
threatened lives then robbed
this group of banditos had been doing this for months
found out later 13 of them were laid out in the streets as an example
by the narcos
you don't mess in their areas

Went to a baseball game here in Mazatlan. Had a lot of fun even though my Los Venados (The Deers) lost bad. Huge 3 dollar beers, brought to you at your seats, for the entire game, (they were asking if I wanted another as we left the stadium). People were dancing and having fun in their seats. Cheerleaders! yea
Here's some pics.
This pic was taken from our condo and shows the stadium in the distance.
noise makers galore; ya can't see the one spinning in my hand
too much beer to be had
I liked doing cheers with the cheerleaders
Would I like another beer? Why yes yes I do
I did not have as many as the guy next to me who drank about 6 of these things.
Would you like sushi? Sendai has some of the best. We got barbecued chicken wings instead. They were really meaty and good tasting!
ok that's it from Mazatlan

it is sure looking that way
what a blast
didn't even cost you 300 dollars like it would have in the States
or to do that with the Padres
who lets face it are probably more of a minor league team than the Los Venados
this reminds me of the show EAST BOUND and DOWN for some reason

How much did you pay for the condo?

Read the first post for details, but we paid $300,000. That's about as expensive as a 2 bedroom condo gets here, but I think our building is pretty special.

sigh. beers at fenway park (red sox) cost ~$12 for a 14oz coors light, and you can't buy more after the 7th inning or 2 1/2 hours into the game whichever comes first.
and the leg room at your stadium looks awesome

Yes^^^ I know the restaurant, Sendai, and it is great food. I'm not a knowledgeable sushi person per se, (I couldn't afford that **** in California; small pieces for huge prices), but I love the restaurant, and my friend from Orange County loves sushi and loved this place when he came.
I did not try it at the ball game, but we're in Mazatlan the land of fresh fish caught locally. I'm sure it's pretty good.
I was genuinely surprised at the barbecued chicken wings sold by a walk around vendor. They were hot, big, and tasty.
I'll try the Sendai next time. They do have cooked rolls, maybe that was what they sell at the game.

the hardest part of this would be finding out that jose and his ice cooler has cheaper fresher better tasting sushi in the 7th inning (under 100 degree heat) than I can find in my own CALI town that resides next to the beach (where a lot of good fish comes from but isn't sold here because big cities pay far more money)
and the possibility of that is pretty likely which makes me even more upset right now tbh
when you get it take us some photos
i can pretend tell by looking at it how good it is

One of the things I gave up in California was good food. There was only so much money for me living in California and I like things too much. I also could not 'afford' the time to eat good stuff. So it was either cheap quick home made meals or fast food. (After I met my 2nd wife meals were still cheap home cooked, but much better.)
Now, I'm doing better, (don't owe nada), but I don't consider myself rich by any means,,, so I'm still looking for the good deals.
Cocina de Abuela is a couple minutes walk from me. I got this to go, but the place was nicely painted and clean.... (still small, plastic chair/tables, fans & open windows.)
This cost $3.70...
(probably because there's no kosher tax)
that includes a 50 cent tip

comon' this is fast food here in Mexico
show me economical fast food that's as good
I'm sure there is; but show me what you got
My wife would argue the point saying Mexico is number 1 cuisine. What do you consider the best?
I'm just a redneck hick from teh hills; I don't know nothin' but good possum
