Verlander had a bad year in 2014 and 2015 as a result of a core muscle injury and subsequent surgery. Dude should have won the cy young in 2016 with Detroit, as he smoked Porcello in every stat except Wins. He started 2017 off a little slow early on, but figured his shit out and was dominating again. Not sure why people were writing him off.

Reds acquired RHP Matt Harvey from the Mets for C Devin Mesoraco and cash.

It's a nice change-of-scenery swap all around, as Harvey had worn out his welcome in Queens and Mesoraco had fallen behind 2017 Gold Glove-winning catcher Tucker Barnhart on the depth chart in Cincinnati. Harvey was moved to the Mets' bullpen last month, but he figures to get another crack at starting with the Reds, who have one of the worst rotations in baseball. The 29-year-old right-hander owns a 7.00 ERA in 27 innings (four starts, four relief appearances) this season.
