I had a SECRET clearance, but it expired in 2006.

But while I had it, I was able to see all KINDS of **** ... that bored me to tears.

I work at a defense contractor. I was told it costs $15,000 for each clearance they do. This is covered by G&A rates the Government pays on each of their contracts with us though so...

Top secrets take months to receive. Took me like half a year for them to complete the investigation.

Depends entirely on the person. If you have a lot of close relatives who live overseas expect 1-2 years

I've been told my clearence is an open invite to lots of jobs.

lots of jobs I have no intrest in, the company will have to pay to get yours, and it's EXPENSIVE, think 20k+ for secret, more for TS, they go around and interview people that you know, have people investigate everywhere you have ever lived ect.

Technically, if you have TS and its still active, your not supposed to divulge your clearance to those without the 'need to know'.

I used to have it in Canadia. It granted me access to the Caramilk secret.

I have a friend who is TS/SCI cleared. He said it took him about a year to get cleared. Lockheed sponsored him and I think he is cleared till 2013 or something.

I had clearance through my work last year because I was researching and working on biological warfare/terrorism stuff.

It took about 2 months for the FBI to clear me. They ran a background check, took new prints, and a few other things.

as silly as it might seem, high level clearance can make you a target for foreign states blah blah blah, so they ask that you not advertise it

first of all, if anyone has a clearance and says so - they're stupid. second of all, you have to have a reason to get an interm secret (before you get TS) and you must have a sponsor. as for prices, i don't know - all i know it's hella expensive to start and even maintain a clearance.
