Why does everyone have to be a Democrat or a Republican?

Serious question, why is America so polarised that it pigeonholes everyone as either a Democrat (lefty liberal snowflake etc.) or a Republican (Right wing Fascist Trump loving gun nuts etc..)

Yeah I know you have independent candidates standing for elections but they aren't taken seriously. It just seems that in the US even more than other countries such as the UK which essentially has a two party system, that your 'side' in this actually defines you as a person in the eyes of others. Or am I misreading it?

Again, serious question and against all the odds I would like to see some intelligent answers. The usual :ftard: :ftard: can flame away as normal.
because people coming out of american schools are uncomfortable counting past 2

I definitely lean Republican but would never become a member of the party.

What I've heard Euro's say is weird is how bad black / white race relations appear in the US.

Which really wraps back around to the 2 party system.

Over 90% of blacks vote democrat and they make up 25% of the party. the dems can't afford to lose them so they continue to push divisive racial issues and play them up in the media.

Republicans used to basically be democrats a long while ago.
Bullshit.

The GOP was founded in 1854 by opponents of the Kansas–Nebraska Act, which allowed for the potential expansion of slavery into the western territories. The party supported classical liberalism, opposed the expansion of slavery, and supported economic reform.[14][15] Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. Under the leadership of Lincoln and a Republican Congress, slavery was banned in the United States in 1865.

Classic Liberalism?
Classical liberalism is a political ideology and a branch of liberalism which advocates civil liberties under the rule of law with an emphasis on economic freedom. Closely related to economic liberalism, it developed in the early 19th century, building on ideas from the previous century as a response to urbanisation and to the Industrial Revolution in Europe and North America.

Vs Liberalism, which today isn't.
Liberalism is a political and moral philosophy based on liberty, consent of the governed and equality before the law.[1][2][3] Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but they generally support free markets, free trade, limited government, individual rights (including civil rights and human rights), capitalism, democracy, secularism, gender equality, racial equality, internationalism, freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Yellow is the political colour most commonly associated with liberalism.

tribalism is essentially baked into our brains from 10's of thousands of years of finding a group for safety

i think its a huge problem in modern society but life is too complicated for most people to wrap their tiny minds around so its easier to just find a team and then agree with them on everything and anyone that disagrees is evil and less than human

I'm flummoxed about you desiring an "intelligent answer," yet posing your question to "TribalWar."

The best I can give you is that Americans are generally conservative and resist change, so going to a ranked voting model is just too vast and sweeping a change for most citizens to digest. The second problem with ranked voting is that it would upend the Republican party, and the corporatocracy that governs the industrial-military complex that currently controls the nation.

With ranked voting, adding the Tea party, the green party, and libertarian party alone would change everything-- General Dynamics, General Electric, Boeing, and a lot of others would no longer control congress. Without the lower middle class that dependably pay their taxes, the corporate elite and their wealthy investors would be in a dire situation from which they wouldn't be able to recover. They cannot let that happen-- so even if we do elect Biden-- like Clinton before him, they want him at least somewhat in their pocket.

Serious answer. Even though government is controlled by corporations, banks, and families at the top, there are major differences between Left and Right in the USA.

Left - Give everything away, socialism. Lately, it's extreme with calls for free college, free houses, free healthcare, reparations for blacks, open borders.

Right - Capitalism. CEOs at the top make a lot of money. Trickle down economics. People at the bottom lose. America first, close borders. I'm a conservative and proud of it.

What gets me is how the Jews are liberals, yet the CEOs at the top make a ton of money. The blacks don't do any better as liberals. The politicians talk about all that free stuff, but it doesn't help them. There was 8 years of Obama and the blacks are worse. I believe in the R/k thing where people will vote for the party they were born as. Liberals will vote as a pack no matter what, and they vote the exact opposite of anything Trump does, even if it's for the good. I don't understand the Jews. If they have a high paying job, pay taxes, then they should vote republican to keep taxes low. Yet they're still voting democrat even if their taxes and health care go up.

I don't understand the blacks. Open the borders, lets a bunch of refugees in, who will take resources and jobs. Yet they still vote democrat. Why?

My family was staunchly liberal, my father very much an FDR democrat who voted for Obama twice. Growing up I was very much a hippie. But I joined the military, and my outlook changed.

But I agree that people vote democrat against their own good. You would think the Jews, just on their history, would shy away from authoritarian rule, yet they seem to need it like a junkie needs a fix.

u know that if u work in a cubicle ur one of the people at the bottom right

I would say the very bottom would be people working at PayDay loans, greeters manning the front desk at the gun club, or jail guards at for-profit-prisons.

Cubicle dwellers need to read and write English at a 6th grade level or above, and are usually asked to wear clean clothes to work. The jobs I listed have no such requirements.

Not everyone is driven entirely by self-interest. That's the bit you seem to be having trouble with. Some people like to look ahead and try to improve things for everyone, even if it means they have to sacrifice a little themselves. You might think "it's a dog-eat-dog" world, but that's forgetting that dogs work in packs, and the stronger the pack, the better it is for all the dogs.

The fact that there are only two parties to choose from is asinine.

People believing that one must be aligned with one of only two forms of political thinking are absurd.

The two party system is a great way for the government to continue pooping on all of our faces with increased national debt, bloated defense spending, junk education, and all kinds of stuff.

I do not align myself with any party.

Not really. I make 6 figures, have medical benefits, all my debts are paid off, daughter made it through college with no debt, owns a 10 acre farm west of Ocala. It may not be rich, but it's more than at the bottom.

It's the business model that put everyone in a cube farm, because they want to save money on office space. Now I'm working at home and that's going to continue since Covid came back.

The people Vanster is talking about, work a trade job. They didn't make it through college. It's all the blacks who don't understand that to get a good job, you need good grades in high school and a college degree.

Good Point Mc Hamster. I can see giving up some money to help those in need. It's how Medicare was started. The problem with this, is no matter how much is given, it's never enough. Those people become slaves to government, quit working, and live off the system.

I dunno how much tradespeople make where you live but where I am, they are laughing at your cubicle job.

I would rather spend the next 40 years on construction sites than spend even one week in a cubicle....dang.
