yes, times will stagger based on auction start time i believe (albeit they are often done in groups when the same person). however, skyler is generally correct in pointing out how important the time is.
when you get to "long" and less, the lowest bid becomes increasingly significant.
surely folks "buyout" on lots of items, but there's a deep dynamic of the auction where folks (like myself) are going for uber-deals using low bids and low bid times!
i regularly post low bids on "steals" and very often make out like a bandit.
i have dozens of potions and other stuff for that reason. everytime i go to AH i also check the top weaps and armor i can use, for potential steals.
