Whats a good combination for great computer sound. I'm thinking about maybe going to a pawnshop and pick up a decent reciever and put real speakers next to the desk or decent monitors on it. Im tired of these little plastic **** speakers

Amazon.com: Adam Audio A7X Powered Studio Monitor: Musical Instruments

2 of those will be hard to beat. I would also recommend a great sound card like an Apollo Duo but not imperative.

If you're not creating audio content and don't need surround, just get this setup:
Amazon.com: Rode AI1 Single Channel USB Audio Interface: Musical Instruments
+
Amazon.com: Hosa CPR-202 Dual 1/4 inch TS to Dual RCA Stereo Interconnect Cable, 6.6 feet: Musical Instruments
+
Amazon.com: IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitors ultra-compact 3 studio monitors with bluetooth: Musical Instruments (On sale on Black Friday for usually $200)

It's good enough for content creation, just on a budget.

you want a dac/amp+speakers.

dac/amp - SMSL AD18

speakers - Micca mb42x

this will blow away 99% of "computer speakers"

Any basic 2+1 system seems to go well. I always get the option with the desk dial thing for volume control. You can often plug headphones in there too.

Still a big fan of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. I don't think a better dedicated PC speaker system exists. You can put together an amp and bookshelf speakers and a sub for a lot more money and get superior sound, but it's diminishing returns for me.
