I’m lazy, so gonna quote myself from an earlier thread of similar content.
I grew up in a working household in Massachusetts Suburbia, North Reading Massachusetts to be more specific. My dad was always a hard worker growing up. He was primarily a self employed Brick Mason, but also did roofing and many other handyman type work. He always fixed his own equipment, vehicles or whatever else was broken. He wasn’t religious or political at all, I don’t think I can remember him ever talking about politics or religion. He was a meat and potato kind of guy, liked his beer at the end of the day. He brought us up to be respectful and honest. Biggest sin to him was lying.
My mother was also Hard working, she was a waitress growing up. She was political, very much a socialist. She hated Nixon, so at a young age I heard about the evil republicans. She was a huge fan of JFK and RFK, but she hated Ted because of chappaquiddick. She grew up in Charlestown mass, an Irish Townie, so that’s what probably shaped her views. Growing up, I don’t remember my parents ever talking about race. Everyone deserves respect until they prove otherwise. It was also the 60’s and 70’s when I was a child, so I remember hippies being kind and friendly, a lot of my older cousins were hippies Mand a lot of my parents friends, though my parents never were.
When I graduated high school I went to college for a semester, hated it then I went into the Air Force. Prior to joining I didn’t know anyone in the military so it was very much a step into the unknown for me. I loved it immediately and I started becoming more conservative in my views which is common in the military back then.
I think this is why I am so moderate now, I see value in both views. I by no means are Republican or Democrat, I believe both parties are corrupt being repair.
