I haven't had time to read a lot in the news b/c of midterms, so you probably know more than I do about what's going on. However, I do know that GWB said 7 years ago that we'll see democratic revolts in the rest of the middle east, everyone else said it'd never happen, and now it's happening. Whether the new governments are friendly or not is another discussion.
edit: in Libya they're revolting against Muammar Gaddafi. Haven't we been trying to get rid of him for like 40 years now because he's an anti-US terrorist/terrorist supporter?

CAIRO (AP) -- The son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi says protesters have seized control of some military bases and tanks.
Appearing on Libyan state television Sunday night, Seif al-Islam Gadhafi warned of civil war in the country that would burn its oil wealth.
He also acknowledged that the army made mistakes during protests because troops were not prepared to battle demonstrators.
He offered to put forward reforms within days that he described as a "historic national initiative." He said the regime was willing to remove some restrictions and to begin a discussion of the constitution. He offered to change a number of laws, including those covering the media.

This shows you are too young to understand this has been a generational happening in the Middle East since it was artificially created after the British left.
None of those countries existed prior to 1912. Stable they are not.
"Syria became a French protectorate thinly disguised as a League of Nations Mandate. The Christian coastal areas were split off to become Lebanon, another French protectorate. Iraq and Palestine became British mandated territories. Iraq became the "Kingdom of Iraq" and one of Sherif Husayn's sons, Faisal, was installed as the King of Iraq. Palestine became the "British Mandate of Palestine" and was split in half. The eastern half of Palestine became the "Emirate of Transjordan" to provide a throne for another of Husayn's sons, Abdullah. The western half of Palestine was placed under direct British administration. The already substantial Jewish population was allowed to increase. Initially this increase was allowed under British protection. Most of the Arabian peninsula fell to another British ally, Ibn Saud. Saud created the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932."

As a result, you can probably place your bets on civil war. This situation is much different than Egypt.

Yipeeeee!
Now USA can sell weapons to both sides.
Ya know, hedge our bets?

Good for them, but I'm not too sure if Egypt or Libya will get 'democracy' in the next few years. There is going to be a huge vacuum set forth and that typically means trouble.

remember when we invaded the middle east to light the fire for democracy in the middle east and then it started to happen and all the liberals are trying to take credit for it now when they wanted us out in 2005? SPNirology remembers.
