The Trump administration has lifted an Obama-era ban on importing legally hunted elephant remains ***8212; known as trophies ***8212; from Zimbabwe and Zambia, National Public Radio reports.
If that sounds familiar it***8217;s because this is the second time in recent months the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), a federal agency under the Department of the Interior, has moved to ease trophy import restrictions. This time around, agency head Ryan Zinke ***8212; a hunting advocate ***8212; appears to be working more discreetly.
When the FWS initially announced it would lift the ban in November, outrage ensued. Criticism came from conservationists, as well as celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres and Leonardo DiCaprio; President Donald Trump said he would pause deregulation ***8220;until such time as I review all conservation facts.***8221;

But in a memo dated March 1, the FWS writes that it will now consider imports ***8220;on a case-by-case basis***8221; rather than banning outright trophies from certain countries. The agency***8217;s original decision was based on the theory that money paid by big game hunters assists conservation efforts. But groups such as the Humane Society and Save the Elephants say it***8217;s not a good idea in these two countries, especially at this time.

The agency***8217;s position also appeared at odds with Trump***8217;s public remarks. Two days after pausing the ban, Trump said on Twitter that he would be ***8220;very hard-pressed***8221; to change his opinion ***8220;that this horror show in any way helps conservation of Elephants or any other animal.***8221;
In a January interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, the U.S. President said: ***8220;I didn***8217;t want elephants killed and stuffed and have the tusks brought back into this [country].***8221; Addressing Zinke***8217;s claim that hunting license fees would fund local conservation efforts, Trump added: ***8220;In that case, the money was going to a government that was probably taking the money, OK?***8221;
The latest FWS memo cites a Washington D.C. court ruling in favor of a lawsuit brought by Safari Club International and the National Rifle Association. According to NPR, the court determined that the Obama administration did not adequately observe rules around passing the ban, such as inviting public comment.

Survival of the fittest.
I don't care about animals that refuse to be domesticated by humans. That's why the circus went out of business and attendance at Sea World and Busch Gardens is down a lot. All of these animals will eventually be extinct because there's no room for them on planet earth.

Trump should tweet about how elephants come from extremely wealthy nations that can afford to lose a few of them.

Still can't work out if you're genuinely this dim, or if you have just become a parody of yourself, like some sort of internet Village Idiot playing to the crowd for scraps of food and +rep.
Probably both.

The danger to elephant numbers is poaching. Poachers kill many thousands each year and just hack off the valuable bits and run. Licensed safari companies (usually) work in league with conservation groups, kill very few elephants, and (usually) insure the meat and a portion of the hunt fees go to local communities.
Of course the same root cause that keeps African countries ****holes (the universally corrupt governments) gets in the way of these policies actually working out.
Poor elephants.

Hey it***8217;s not cool to criticize someone who would single handedly run into a school without fear and take down domestic thugs packing AR-15***8217;s.

I don't think much of the African wildlife is going to survive for very much longer, especially if the Africans continue to breed like they have been, and we keep giving them medication and vaccines to continue to live and breed. Africa needs a human cleansing program - a massive war - to thin their heard out, something that i think is going to happen in our lifetime.
Its going to be really interesting to see the reaction and response of the (((international))) community for when the blacks in S. Africa attempt to murder all the white and confiscate their lands. We do know that thousands upon thousands of Africans will starve to death if/when this happens, but will the world back up the whites living there and allow them to defend their lands/property against the Blacks attempting to genocide them?
The stage is being set in Africa. (((They))) are forcing our borders open to allow for millions upon millions of Mexicans and Latino's to come into this country and openly walk around saying Make America Mexico Again. If (((they))) allow the blacks free range to kill off the whites in Africa because it was the blacks land first, this will pave the way for the propaganda of removing all the whites in the western States to give back to the Mexicans for living here 200 years prior - even though Mexicans are one of the newest races of human beings - Spanish bred with American Indians.
Poor elephants. The Africans are going to kill you all off, yet somehow, its Trumps fault.
