House rejects Democratic budget alternatives

The House on Wednesday voted down two budget alternatives offered by two key Democratic factions as Republicans move forward with their proposal this week to establish a vehicle for tax reform.

Substitute budgets offered by the Congressional Progressive Caucus and Congressional Black Caucus were both defeated in late evening votes. The House is expected to adopt the House GOP budget on Thursday.

Both proposals to spend more money on social safety net programs stood in contrast to the House GOP budget, which would increase military spending and call for $203 billion in cuts to mandatory spending, including anti-poverty and agriculture programs. Neither budget would balance, but proponents say they would help reduce the deficit over time.

Bill to Rescue Children’s Health Program Hits Snag in House - The New York Times

WASHINGTON — Legislation to rescue the Children’s Health Insurance Program sailed through a Senate committee on Wednesday, but touched off a partisan conflict in the House, diminishing hopes that the popular program would be quickly refinanced.

Funding for the program expired on Sunday, and state officials said they would soon start notifying families that children could lose coverage if Congress did not provide additional money. It was impossible to say when Congress might pass a bill and send it to President Trump.

But in the House Energy and Commerce Committee, lawmakers brawled Wednesday over a similar bill to provide money for the children’s health program. Democrats strongly support the program, but complained that Republicans would take money from Medicare and the Affordable Care Act to offset the cost.

The House committee eventually approved the bill, by a vote of 28 to 23, with all of the opposition coming from Democrats.

One provision of the House Republican bill would require older Americans with income of more than $500,000 a year to pay higher Medicare premiums.

“Folks that earn a half-million dollars a year and are over 65, they can pay a little bit more for Medicare,” said Representative Fred Upton, Republican of Michigan. “And you know what? If they don’t want to pay, they don’t have to enroll. That’s a choice they will have.”

The House bill would also make it easier for states to eliminate Medicaid coverage for some low-income people who hit the jackpot in lotteries. Under current Medicaid rules, income received as a lump sum, such as lottery winnings, is counted as income only in the month when it is received.

This forces taxpayers to bear the cost of providing health care benefits for people who no longer need assistance, Republicans said.

But Democrats said it was outrageous for Republicans to demand such offsets for CHIP while pushing huge tax cuts that could add hundreds of billions of dollars to federal budget deficits.

The Republican CHIP proposals “will likely mean more delay and possibly no action in Congress until the end of the year as part of an omnibus appropriations bill,” said Representative Frank Pallone Jr. of New Jersey, the senior Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

Pete Brewton's book, “George Bush, the CIA and the Mafia,” is a must-own for those interested in the workings of the Bush Organized Crime Family. Written by a former Houston Post reporter, the book documents, literally, the way the Mafia, the CIA and those connected and related to George Poppy Bush looted more than 1,000 of the nation’s Savings and Loans institutions — and pretty much got away with it, scot-free.

One way they did it was to get a person inside the S&Ls to make high-risk loans for imaginary project that would go no where. It could be a mega-mall construction project or a new high-rise condo. Collateral could be something as flimsy as a Xeroxed deed with the real owner’s name “White-Out.”

Then, before even one shovel of dirt gets turned, the loanee goes bankrupt and POOF go $6 million, say. Before it can be retrieved. . By then, the money was offshore and the bankruptee went on with his or her life as normal. The crooks behind them had additional, tax-free revenue. I kid you not, this happened in Pontiac, Michigan in 1989.

Like with other real journalists, writing about this stuff eventually cost Brewton his job. Heck, the original publisher dropped the book after getting "the call."
Brewton's book is a terribly difficult read, because of the complex nature of the conspiracies surrounding the S&Ls, money laundering, black ops, and Big Oil. It doesn’t make an easy to follow, Hansel-and-Gretel-bread-crumbs-through-the-forest story.

Last appeal failed, Worthington dad leaves for Guatemala - StarTribune.com

After a last-ditch appeal to keep him in the country failed Wednesday, Jacobo Gabriel-Tomas is on his way to Guatemala, a country he has not set foot in for 25 years, the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota said.

Gabriel-Tomas is a husband, father of four U.S. citizens, homeowner, taxpayer and a loved and respected resident of Worthington in southern Minnesota. The city's mayor, Republican state representative and several members of Minnesota's Congressional delegation fought to keep him from being deported.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) denied a stay of deportation to Gabriel-Tomas on Sept. 25, but his attorney, along with U.S. Sens. Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Tim Walz sought a review from the acting director of ICE.

That review was denied Wednesday.

and denial by the person who knows what was said. Tillerson. That makes NBC liars

The NBC report that upset the president said Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called Trump a “moron” and considered resigning this summer after a meeting at the Pentagon. Tillerson denied that he considered stepping down and would not address “petty” stuff, but said the president “loves this country and “puts Americans and America first.”

The Bush family and the S&L Scandal

The Savings and Loan industry had been experiencing major problems through the late 60s and 70s due to rising inflation and rising interest rates. Because of this there was a move in the 1970s to replace the role of S&L institutions with banks.

In the early 1980s, under Reagan, regulatory changes took place that gave the S&L industry new powers and for the first time in history measures were taken to increase the profitability of S&Ls at the expense of promoting home ownership.

A history of the S&L situation can be found here:

http://www.fdic.gov/bank/historical/s&l /

What is important to note about the S&L scandal is that it was the largest theft in the history of the world and US tax payers are who was robbed.

The problems occurred in the Savings and Loan industry as they relate to theft because the industry was deregulated under the Reagan/Bush administration and restrictions were eased on the industry so much that abuse and misuse of funds became easy, rampant, and went unchecked.

Additional facts on the Savings and Loan Scandal can be found here:

In The 80s - Savings and Loan Scandal

There are several ways in which the Bush family plays into the Savings and Loan scandal, which involves not only many members of the Bush family but also many other politicians that are still in office and still part of the Bush Jr. administration today. Jeb Bush, George Bush Sr., and his son Neil Bush have all been implicated in the Savings and Loan Scandal, which cost American tax payers over $1.4 TRILLION dollars (note that this is about one quarter of our national debt).
