[BUG] Product Keys

Uh, I have an issue with Product Keys on T:V. My brother and one of my friends, we cannot join the same server because it says that our Product Keys are in use.

If those are the things that FilePlanet gives us before we download, we do infact have 3 seperate keys, and none of us even KNOW the keys of the other people. So this is obviously some kind of error.

My friend joined a server, and I couldn't join because it gave me that error, then I went into a server, and HE couldn't join, same error. We are NOT using the same Product Key, so something is wrong.

Same story as above for my brother, who is on a network HUB to a DSL connection. But my friend isn't anywhere near my house.

No, we all have our own.

[EDIT: And didn't use same computer either]

[EDIT 2: Also, if it matters, my brother and I used the same install program, I downloaded it for me before he got through the line, so he used his key on my install program, but I can't see how that would matter. My friend used his own download]

I can't imagine I'm the ONLY person having this problem, since it hit 3 of us, all ppl I know, in seemingly unsimilar circumstances :-\ I don't want this thread to disappear (like it is going) because we are signed up on the ladder, and us 3 are 1/2 my clan supposed to play on Saturday.

If our Keys aren't working, we can't play, we have to forfeit, not fun :(

One last try, then I'll just let this die and try to figure something out on my own... :\ ANYONE have a suggestion? Or ANYONE had this problem?

So does that mean he used his key to install the beta on your comp?
Did he use the same key (his) to install his copy of the beta?
If so, it's obvious that you get this "Key in use" error.

You can try this tool to change your cdkey (copy into /program/bin and run it)

Or you can totally re-install T:V and use a different cdkey (do not just delete the folder! Registry entries will still be there which will keep you from re-installing.)

Good Luck!

We all had our own keys, we all used our own keys to install onto our own computers. THATS why I can't make sense of it. He did NOT use his key to install on my comp, we all used our own, all 3 of us, on our own computers.

The only "re-used" bit was the install program itself, which I gave to my brother (just the install PROGRAM ITSELF, just received from FilePlanet) on a portable hardrive.

No official response for this? Need more info, Irrational?

*sigh* Read, people, work with me here.

Both myself and my brother are on a HUB/same DSL, so that MAY be viable for an issue, but my friend lives in another AREA CODE, so no way our IPs match THERE.

I've got nothing to tell you I'm afraid. I've logged it as a bug already. I left it open in case someone else had the same problem and a possible solution.

Are you absolutely positive you aren't using the same key, even by accident?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling all three machines. It's the only other thing I can think of.

I'm going to try redoing the key changer, best I can think of, but we don't even KNOW each other's keys, as in, never laid eyes on them, lol. But if the key changer doesn't work we'll uninstall and reinstall. Thanks for the notice, at least ;)

Have you tried checking the registry keys on both computers?

1. Start > Run... > regedit
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > VUGames > CDKeys
3. Next to "tribesv" on the right, you should see a set of 16 numbers. I'd make sure they're both different on your computers.

I'm pretty sure that's where the cdkeys are stored and if you were using the same cd key, those numbers would be the same.

Serious Question:
Did the three of you try to use the keygen that was out shortly after the subscriber open beta was released. I've heard people complaining about trying to use their keys after playing around with a keygen key. I think they fixed it by totally un-installing T:V. Then re-istalling from scratch, using the new key provided from FP. I dont think the over-install worked to replace the keys.

Verify that you and your brother don't have the same key. And as Willy said, if you used a keygen  then you've possibly still got an invalid key in your registry.

Problem resolved, both morons were using my FilePlanet account...figured this out 30 seconds ago, lol.

They both have obtained their own keys now. Of course, with FilePlanet, it doesn't SAY "Welcome TechKrill" or anything, u just assume that you are logged in. I must've logged into both their computers at some point in the past (none of us use FP that much...) and it stayed logged in, lol.

Thanks for the help, but Irrational can scratch this bug from the list, lol. It was our fault. I feel rather stupid ;)

sigh, if the computers ur using have the same ip address, then it wont let u get a different cd key.... u get the same, doesnt matter if ur on a different account
