He is calling her bluff. I'd would not be surprised if a conflict came up where she can't testify and the entire story goes poof tomorrow.
 
Supreme Court Justices don't actually serve for life, they serve “during good behavior” which would not include lying about raping 15 year old girls no matter how long ago it occurred. It would not be good behavior to find that this nominee has been lying this whole time while under oath.
