Finally Downed H25 Anub

I'm a little curious how people who don't even know how to gem properly get into Mad Skill+ guilds.

The best part is when you are in a guild with somebody and explain to them that changing some of the their gems would give them a dps increase and why changing those gems would give them a dps increase and they still refuse to make the change.

That's when you recruit over them. =p

We ended up breaking away from that group, trying to explain to a mage that gemming and enchanting for intel was bad and having them discard the theorycraft, advice from people that raid as that class and the webstats that show where they should be for their gear level was frustrating.

Maybe some of those people that can't maximize dps have terrible math skills and showing them calculated improved projections don't mean anything to them.

I don't necessarily think it's bad math skills. I bet it's that same element that makes people religious. Just a disregard for the facts in favor of their own little fantasy world.

can someone help me boost my dpz

The World of Warcraft Armory

Assuming you are serious about end-game raiding, here is what I would start out on.

- use epic gems
- use nightmare tear in a non prismatic slot, possibly giving yourself a socket bonus somewhere instead of wasting it
- get better gear (lolduh) / especially trinkets
- get rid of mining
- fix your enchants (shoulders and chest as an example)

You know, this is one of the things I've never understood in WoW, or in any setting, really.

Why do people think "elitist" is some sort of an insult?

Yes, I'm fucking better than you, and no, I don't want to put up with your failure. It's not some sort of character judgement, it's just something that is.

I dunno, never really bothered me either. I am kind of an asshole though .

I think the insult is still relevant when we're talking about the myriad mediocre players who carry themselves as if they are the second of coming of christ, simply because they can read EJ and regurgitate most of the (largely pointless) shit from their class/spec thread.

So since the word doesn't have much relevance to it unless it's being used in an ironic / hypocritical way, I guess it's not the best word to describe those players, but those are definitely the people I think of when the word is mentioned--not the genuinely good players.

I would think the genuinely good guilds would welcome the term, however.

It depends on the subject at hand. If you're going for insanity or something, and you need advice, it's one thing. When you can't gem properly, it's another thing.

EJ/Tankspot and these sites are simply a reference manual. If you can't get off your lazy ass to find out which gems do what for your class, or rather, which gems provide the best stats for your class, that's when the responses sound elitist.

There is a world of difference between being exceptional and being elitist, and the two don't go hand in hand (aka being amazingly gifted at something is not a license to be an asshole nor is being an asshole akin to being exceptional)

But you can't be an elitist (in the true sense of the word) without being exceptional, at which point it ceases to be an insult on it's own. You should just call them an asshole if you're trying to be derogatory.

When someone says "You're an elitist" I just read "fuck you for being so much better than I am".

I'd think elitist could have multiple meanings. There is Pessi's version where people are better/more skilled/etc. the the rest, dictated by the 99th percentile in what they do.

But it could also mean something a little bit more neurotic, where someone may think or believe they are better than other people when they really aren't.

I don't want to waste my time dealing with a person I don't know when all the signs point to him or her being a retard. Does that make me an elitist? Maybe. But this is my free time and I am free to spend it the way I want to.

Some of you guys call Pessimistick an elitist as a negative insult but there have been several times where I have asked him a question or two on topics I'm not very clear on and he has been very helpful with me.

I believe the main difference is how the attitude is. A "bad" player can learn and get advice from these "elitists" if they just know how to ask.

I'll use two people here as an example:

MistaKe here asked me questions about Death Knights a while ago, which is my main class currently. He asked me questions very clearly and as far as I understood, he researched his basics and his questions were very specific. I answered him and I hope he became a better player for it.

Nail Bomb, on the other hand just makes a thread and says "How do I be good at <insert class here>??" These type of questions are very unspecific and vague, therefore really can't be answered. Therefore we generally just dismiss this and he calls us assholes, elitists, whatever it might be.

See what the difference is? Bonus question: where do you think Feannag fits in at?

Being 'elitist' is simply one possible attitude set in how you choose to handle and manage being exceptional. IMO, people who are elitist are people who are good but know they are good, consider themselves better people than others simply because they are good at said thing/action/whatever, and act like dicks to everyone and anyone not considered in their social clique of awesomeness.

Now, you'll always have to check the source and situation, as like Terra mentioned earlier, depending on where the question or comment is coming from, the percentage of people deciding to act elitist in a situation can raise or shrink dramatically (ie: feannag question = 85% of board is elitist, adren question = maybe 5%?) , but generally being elitist is never a good thing.

It's akin to bragging, bullying and social segregation; and like I mentioned before, you could be the greatest ever and still be a nice guy.

What's the big difference between Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan? One was a cocky prick who treated everyone like shit, the other was a handsome superstar who sold underwear. They both are phenomenal basketball players, considered the greatest ever. However, history will always consider Iverson a punk, and Jordan the champion (regardless of stats or real ability).

JM5K, bad example bro. I'm from Chicago. I love my Bulls. I grew up watching Jordan and loving every victory and championships. I love Jordan.

Michael Jordan was the biggest trashtalker in sports. He got under people's skins and he knew he was better than you every night. He fought with everyone, gambled away a lot of money just to "win" from casinos and belittled a lot of his friends. I would even go on to say that Jordan was a bigger "elitist" than Iverson. The difference is that Jordan won a lot more than Iverson and thus is a champion.

Straying off a bit from the topic, however.
