Why does tribes3.org get so much attention?

if thats what you say then why are my 2 sources of "files" and "scripts" for t2 found on planettribes.com and slingscripts.com? I would love to see tribalwar become what it once was in t1. THE place to go for everything concerning tribes. However, noone here is putting in the effort to get the tribes hosted and the scripters hosted and the skinners hosted.

We suffered from a lack of motivation from a good portion of the staff not liking T2. BP, Beren, and myself I believe are the only ones who play regularly. So you didn't see TW being a T2 powerhouse site long after Tribes 2 was released.

With recent events there is a new found force to get the site back to the status it once was.

I didn't say we are the best locations for files and scripts. I said we are committed to being that and have the resources to do so.

There is a concerted effort to get people hosted. We had a lot of great people hosted before the move to homelan and we lost the ability to host people. Sadly many left and have yet to return.

I would be willing to say that TW still holds the largest T1 demo archive even though our T2 resources are a bit laxed.

Yep, it's funny how lacking tribalwar is in the skins and scripting department. They might just be waiting till tribes3 get more press and then they'll reoganize a bit.

Personally, I would like to see a "Best of" section here on tribalwar.

Best of scripts, best of skins, best of maps, best of mods, etc.

It's kind of annoying to have to site hop to find the best everything. Of course there are already some great sites out there so maybe just hold it to Tribes3. Hosted sites too often contain a biased opinion or have limited content. I realize "best" is very subjective so maybe most popular is what I mean.

One example I can think of is exogen's huds for tribes2. Very popular.

Of course, I'm also pretty lazy and I like people to put everything I need in one place without having to go dig for it -- so it might just be a personal problem.

You'll notice people such as myself have no idea how to find these places. Which might account for the lack of use.

I'm sure if you gave it 30 seconds you'd be able to find it.

Left navigation -> Files Database

I think the lack of use is more due to the ratio of playing to non-playing people on the site now. The time to position a site as an important source of scripts, skins and crap has long past for both T1 and T2.

No, it's just when I go to a site and look for skins or scripts, my intuition tells me to click on a link that says skins or scripts -- not files.

Aren't those files?

Files that might be in a files database?

We can't expand our menus because some people can't put two and two together.

Tell me why your files database is so popular then?

Obviously the demo section is popular b/c people see it.

But if you polled tribalwar for howmany people knew they could submit skins and scripts to a file database, I think you'd be surprised.

If you polled TW for how many people have visited the front page recently your results would probably be the same ;)

I know what you're saying the problems is the amount of space.

You have duplicate entries for each section because there's two games, that will eventually turn into triplicates for Tribes: [name here].

If you click the demos link, you're in the files database and you have navigation just like on the forums. You can go up and down the category tree very easily.

I'll see if there's something we can work out though.

you know, another thing, it'd be nice to have some semblence of organization for skins.

For example you're going to 102391231231 recolors spread all over the place. I think you should at least sub categorize that somehow b/c the naming convention won't always work. I know you have it as effects and weapons and what not, but there's still a lot of digging involved.

Also, anything I'm talking about is a suggestion for tribes3. I don't really see a need to put much effort into tribes 2 or 1 anymore.

if i got permission from the scripters and TW, i'd start grabbing and uploading every script i could find, with the scripters name listed on it...i have plenty of free time, good bandwidth, and a developers account in the RDB

its little things like skins and scripts that drive traffic to the site. Its the forums that keep ppl .. but inititally its the little things like a demo or a script.
Bullshit. Only one thing is guaranteed to drive people to a web site. Porn. End of conversation.
