Unfortunately yes you'll need to sign up to Gamespy.
We are moving across to Crysis Wars (bundled with Warhead) and this has the same system.
Even though Crysis and the forthcoming Wars SDK includes an absolute stack of the game code, certain core elements we don't have access to be able to change.

are there recommended PC specs? I know that you have to at least be able to run crysis, but that vid showed you going at fast speed and having to render a lot of stuff.

Yeah that was direct, in engine, frame dump done on a very high spec PC though.
The basic specs aren't very high really. The engine is really scalable.
My advice though would be for at least a decent C2D (2.2 ghz+), 4 Gigs Ram, Nvidia 8600 upwards gfx. ATI specs I would suggest aim a card higher than you would with Nvidia, if that makes sense

No experience with AMD processors either I'm afraid.
We are moving over to Crysis Wars though that has been optimized better for lower spec machines. Think there's a playable demo of Crysis Warhead (Wars is bundled with Warhead) kicking around somewhere I'm sure.

well, i have crysis warhead, and that runs so-so on my machine. However, i have ram issues, so that may be the cause. Curious, for that video, what were the specs of the demo machine?

I'm curious how the netcode handles a Tribes-like environment. Take a map like Tribes HillKingLT. Put 8v8. The instanced projectiles in that map are probably 50+ a second ( chain + gren, easily ), if not many times that.

I can't see it supporting that type of insane environment, but we'll see I guess.

This is the first time I've been excited about a video game since they announced Tribes Extreme and Tribes 2.

There is no possible way to disappoint me more than those projects did.

Demo machine specs: Q6600 @ 3.0 ghz, 8 gigs DDR 1066 RAM, 2 x GTX280 in SLI, Vista 64. At that time though think was still running 2 x 8800 GTX's.

Our current testing, and some netcode debugging, has revealed it to be extremely clever.
We have a very small team of pre-alpha testers at the moment, and with around 10 people on our test server, all going crazy, absolutely no problems so far.
However, still a bit early to tell without flooding a server with people. I guess we'll see

i will actually seriously consider buying a new pc when this gets released...it really looks like it has the "tribes 1 with better graphics" feel to it

wait for reviews first. and besides, why a whole new pc? just get a 4870 for like $180

my pc has 1 gig of ram, 3200+ cpu and a vga video card

i need to do a bit of upgrading

and i dont need reviews to see how fun the skiing looks

$180 compared to replacing his whole pc is cheap
