A Tennessee jury on Friday convicted David Kernell of obstruction of justice and misdemeanor computer intrusion in connection with his hacking of Sarah Palin***8217;s e-mail account in 2008, according to local news reports.

Kernell might have walked away from the trial without a felony conviction, if he hadn***8217;t deleted evidence from his hard drive. That, the jury found, constituted felony obstruction of justice.

yes. hacking the email of a high profile political figure is treated the same way as finding someone's facebook page on a gaming forum.

If/when this goes through I'm gonna start suing anyone who hacks me and use this as precedent.

it's Palin's fault for using public information in her security questions.

Using trial and error to gain control over someone's belongings is just as much of a hacking technique as any other.

No, not really. Being irretrievably stupid is allowed in the U.S.A. Just because you're a complete ****ing moron doesn't mean you deserve to have your privacy invaded.

hacking is about discovering the technique or vulnerability... not only using it. though the media has completely muddled the definition and now the term is applied to script kiddies as much as real hackers these days.

I support abortion up to 18 years after birth. that way if you see you gave birth to a douche. You can remove him from society.

What's the specific law concerning these things?

You're seriously breaking the law when you answer the "private questions" on someone's email account?

Say what?

Palin equates this to the Watergate scandal in that both involve derailing elections. While true, I think the fact that she knows so little about internet security, and being "hacked" points to serious flaws in her ability to take care of the security of a country.

While Watergate was not in the public interest, the "hacking" of her email account arguably serves the public good.

I hope the sentence is light, but I suspect the elite will act in a reactionary matter and pass a severe sentence.

That's actually a somewhat decent point.
